There’s a girl sitting on my bed.
She lays down every once in a while to rest her head.
She places her hand upon her heart.
Praying to God the tears don’t start.
There’s a girl driving in my car.
She takes the same path every day to the local bar.
She drinks and drinks until her mind stops wandering.
Until death presents itself and she starts pondering.
Wondering if there’s anything she could do
To stop being nice and stop being used.
There’s too much love in her heart to spare.
But everyone around her seems not to care.
They put her down and push her around.
They say she’s not good enough to rise above the crowd.
They take her for granted and lie to her face.
They tell her she will never have what it takes.
Then they come back and say that they care.
They say there’s no reason to despair.
They don’t understand the tears in her eyes.
They see the scars and laugh when she cries.
They walk away like she’s not worth losing.
They don’t understand the heart that they’re using.
There’s a girl using my hair brush.
She makes it straight and then applies her blush.
They tell her she should wear more make up.
That she should work out and wear her hear up.
They tell her she’s pretty but she has to try.
That she’ll never be good enough for the perfect guy.
They tell her she’s dumb and wont amount to much.
But tell her she should go to college and learn a bunch.
There’s a girl staring at my tombstone.
She’s wishing she was in my place though.
Thinking that nobody will notice anyways.
She thinks about how much she always feels in the way.
There’s a girl feeling used and abused,
There’s no way to make her heart be unbruised.
All she needs is a hero to save her soul.
She doesn’t realize there’s a way to pay the toll.
She just needs to look into her heart.
That’s a good place to start.
See how messed up it has become.
It’s been beaten like a drum.
She can pick herself up,
She can fill her own cup.
She doesn’t know the strength that she has.
Maybe because everyone around her always puts her last.

This is really sad because I imagine there are many people out there who feel the same way, but never speak up. I like that you’ve addressed this issue head-on, and from a writing standpoint, the outsider perspective works well.
My only advice to people who feel this way is to find others who encourage and uplift you. They’re not always within your current circle of family and friends, but they are out there and willing to help.
Powerful piece. Awesome job!
