You come every year
As a reminder
Of time passing
Like a withering flower
Each year
A petal
That I will count
How many times
The blue jay
Will stray
Like a cat
Off his leash
Ready to pounce
On leaves
Like rain
To catch
The missing blue jay

i love this piece. as the seasons change out here, i feel like this is the perfect transitional poem that will help the seasons change!
Reminds me of Steinbeck. “For how far can one know color in perpetual green, and what good is warmth without cold to give it sweetness?” Travels with Charley, by Steinbeck.
This is a great piece, I love the simple imagery you use in the descriptions. It was easy for me to place myself in the scene. Very cool
I like this poem a lot. Very well written and figurative language is astounding. The only thing I would do is make it longer, and add more on each line, but other than that good job! 🙂
Thank you:)
Enjoyed reading, liked the way you worded this poem cleverly ..I just wanted more ..thanks.
I agree with my fellow readers, it is a beautiful poem. I wanted more…..but maybe that is the way you want your readers to feel, thirsty for more.
