The eternal skies are set ablaze
As the fiery glow of the sun descends below the horizon
I affix far away thoughts with my gaze
And in my mind I am alone
The cold wind blows briskly
My transfixed thoughts shift quickly
From the warm embrace of the dying light
To the fear of an oppressive night
As the sun sets my heart becomes heavy
With troubles and demons that seem to number many
As the sun sets I lose my gaze
And I struggle along this path to find my way
As the sun sets there is a darkness that comes from inside
One that most men attempt to hide
A piercing howl and a chilling scream
How I wish this was only a dream
The light falls and the beast comes out to play
He is listless after being oppressed by the warmth of the day
Muscles aching, bones shaking, power quaking
I’m afraid this is one night from which I shall not be waking
As the sun sets darkness takes its hold
Beware of the horror stories that have been told
Not all of these stories are of a force unknown
Some have been witnessed through eyes we have known
As the sun sets
Take heed of the evils of human kind
For one never knows exactly what they will find
In the dark corners of their own mind
As the sun sets…….

I love how the tension in this poem builds with each stanza. It starts out only a bit unsettling but builds up to a super eerie conclusion. I think the formatting you used really adds to that feeling too. I also love the repetition of “as the sun sets” with the beginning of each line.
