"By the way"
My heart hurts
Of distance, of desire
Of opportunities mis-fired
Of friendships come and gone
Don’t leave, stay a while
Make new friends they say
But some are irreplaceable
I’m twenty three
and life is passing me
Quicker than they said it would
Three years to the east I go
Goodbye for now

I enjoyed reading this piece. It is brief, but touches on a lot of topics. My favorite lines are “I’m twenty three and life is passing me.” I think a lot of people this age can relate to the idea of life moving so quickly, and it scares a lot of us.
Thanks:)
I love the intimate tone of this poem – it feels as though I’m reading a letter from the speaker him/herself. I’m curious, is the text of the piece smaller so you have to focus in on it? Is it related to the line “My head hurts?” If so, that’s absolutely brilliant; it brings the reader into your story and is an excellent example of using visual cues in a written medium.
I agree with Kendall – the idea of how fast time is running out in life is scary, if not terrifying. Excellent job!

Hi. Thanks for the kind words. The text size is not related–I’m just new:)
