“Ok, you got this Mel.” I try but fail to inspire some kind of courage in myself as I stand outside the restaurant. Another blind date, another dissapointment. Who knows Mel. Maybe he’ll be the one to make you see colors. Yeah right. At this point, I’ve began to settle in with my black and white vision, never finding love, never seeing all the beautiful, vivid colors that the world has to offer.
What’s this guys name? Eric? Yeah that’s it. Eric. “Ok, let’s do this.”
I walk in to the dimly lit restaurant that smells like alcohol and seafood. I see him sitting at the bar, his back towards me. Broad shoulders, tall, neatly styled hair. Not bad. At least he looks like his pictures. I walk up to him and sit next to him. He turns to me, “Hi, you must be Melody.” Deep voice, well framed face. Not bad. “Hi, nice to meet you Eric.”
He motions for the bartender and he runs over. “What could I get you hun?”
“Whiskey, neat. Thank you” He runs off to make my drink, and I take another look at Eric, already knowing the inevitable. I turn to him. Nope. No colors. He begins talking to me but I’m not really paying attention. This is it. I’m done trying and getting dissapointed.
The bartender brings my drink over and I sip at it, looking around the bar. I notice a girl sitting at a booth by herself. It looks like she has been crying. She lifts her head up, and makes direct eye contact with me.
Blue. Her eyes are blue.
