Communication at its best means different things to different people. To me, the best communicators have mastered several skills. For example, they know how to adapt to different people and their backgrounds or cultures. These communicators have mastered the skill of encoding so much so that they are able to communicate with a wide variety of audiences, spontaneously, and have their intended impact. The ability to touch a wide audience is a powerful skill that I feel the best communicators possess.
Another great skill I feel the best communicators have is the ability to keep “recalls” to a minimum. The best communicators are articulate enough to say what they mean and mean what they say. I think we all can attest to the fact that we have said something we often regretted later. Relationships may have been destroyed as a result. Yes, apologizes often count and time can make almost anything feel small, but the words are never forgotten. Good communicators know how to maintain their composure so the amount of recalls are limited.
Lastly, I think good communicators are experts of unintentional messages. They are well aware of the messages we send without ever uttering a word. Examples of unintentional messages are our posture, what we may be wearing, or even gestures. Communication is an ongoing process that may involves words or not. It is up to the communicator on how he or she wants others view him/her. I feel one exudes to others their intrapersonal thoughts. If the communicator is confident and headstrong, I feel others will pick up on this. The same goes for any other internal messages that the communicator may be experiencing.

I really like the points that you have made on communication. I would add that great communicators should also be great listeners. Listening is the first step in mastering communication skills so that you can better relate to your audience. Great communicators also have high emotional intelligence. They are able to tailor what they say to their intended audience to appeal to a wide range of backgrounds.
