An accumulation of bad choices and the ever onward march into old age left me sad.
It appears I will never win the lottery, which might make me happy, not even sure of that.
My friends and acquaintances never noticed or commented on my sadness.
But today my happiness was noticed. The checkout clerk at Costco I have know for years said it’s nice to see you smile. A lady at Walmart flirted. My neighbor demanded to know what my good fortune was.
Nothing lasts forever, good or bad but I hope this new found happiness lasts for a while.

The line that probably hit me the hardest in your short piece is, “My friends and acquaintances never noticed or commented on my sadness.” Undoubtedly, you and I come from different places in life, but to me that line reminds me of new normals. (i.e. you used to be capable of doing x,y,z, but due to certain circumstances you no longer can.) Anyway, I find you’re very relateable here, evinaz. Great work!
Thank you.
This is wonderful. I wish I could relate to that. As in, I wish I could be happy like you. Nonetheless, I’m so glad you found happiness and I hope to God that you keep it forever or at least as long as you can. <3
