Walked into town
cold, foggy night
Boots and long overcoat
Everyone wondered his sight
his hair dark and blown
hadn’t shaved for a while
wasn’t talkative or known
Drifter, Drifter why are you here?
Towns people questioned his business
Gossip and rumors spread like a plague
Some said as if a ghost
others said an angel
few said he was a devil
One said, “now his presence inevitable”
Many spoke maybe danger
Drifter, Drifter where did you come from?
Stayed down at the end of town
old dimly lit motel
Why his presence, hard to tell
some of the women of him fond
one a beautiful 21 year old, Sally Mae
Lovely in every way, long hair a blonde
Not pleasing to folks, her loving way
Drifter, Drifter, please hearts not tear down!
Drifter lived up to his name
after about a month he left
even a shock to Sally Mae
Her love, she had given him her best
Later found she was with child
People around almost wild
Father a drifter, gone and unknown
Drifter, Drifter did you know?
Sally Mae, state of par-amnesia
she didn’t forget or love again
Again the rumors and gossip
Sally Mae this time begin
Lost her mind,
Stupid her to fall for a drifter
how so blind
Drifter, Drifter will you ever settle down?
