She struggles,
She’s kicking and screaming as she realizes the current is just too strong,
She’s hoping someone will hear her pleas,
She’s hoping someone will throw her a raft,
She’s trying to just keep her head up,
Slowly she realizes,
No one can hear her,
No one will help,
Eventually,
She stops fighting,
She stops trying,
She can feel her lungs struggle,
She can feel the water consuming her,
Everything stops,
Everything dark,
She feels it all slipping away,
But something in her lights up,
She manages to pull herself up,
She can breathe again,
She looks around,
Everyone she loves stands there,
Criticizing her,
Telling her how disappointed they are in her,
All because she knows how to swim,
But what they don’t realize is she just couldn’t anymore,
She was too tired,
That’s when she realized these people just watched her drown instead of doing something,
That’s when she realized she’s alone in this world,
That’s when she turned cold.

Woah I feel so bad for this girl you write about! Just letting her drown . . . how awful! But this piece is heart-wrenching in a good way but sad way.
