I try to drift off
But the light says otherwise
Glowing bright through the window
Flashing with the sway of the blinds
Eyes closed, I can still see it
Bleeding red and orange through my eyelids
Through the veil of skin and sinew
That separates me from the waking world.
It’s quiet in here…and I rest in the silence
But daylight will not leave me be
And burns its scorn for my simple solitude
Into my brain.
