Designer clothes that you never had. Cellphones, Video games, the latest fad. You justify giving them their every whim. They didn’t work for it, or appreciate them. They grow up, move out on their own and only call when they need something or someone. Meanwhile they blame you. Call you toxic, try to shame you. Bad parent, you. What did I do? You ask. In truth, what you did, was prevent their fall, so the Entitled Child learned nothing at all. FB, Instagram, Twitter: WVPoetrygirl Amazon Author page: www.amazon.com/author/anitaelam

I think this is such an interesting piece, because in this day and age, a fourth grader having an iPhone is a given. And we always blame the parents for some reason; however rereading this piece gave me a new perspective because parents are just as pressured from their kids as the kids are from their peers. And I don’t think it’s anyone’s fault other than the development of technology in the 21st century. Thank you for this enlightening piece and a new perspective.
Thanks for the feedback. I know we live in a different time, for sure, and I am certainly not out to blame anyone for technological advances (I’m older and am from the era of no cellphones/video games/internet, etc. So, I do believe its a combination of both….parents being too ‘giving’ (or more like giving in to pressure) and also too, children not being required to ‘earn’ a lot of gifts they get handed to them….(I was just as guilty with my kids too).
Thank you for your comments.
