Note:: Well, turns out as I transferred chapter five from Docs onto here, I accidentally deleted it. I’m having to copy it off of here and paste it back into Docs.

Ace Phinneas Brown
“WAIT, SO YOU just left her there?” my closest friend, Jax Parker, exclaims. I nod, lighting the blunt in my hand and taking a drag out of it. “With hurt ribs and no ride home?”
I shrug, blowing out a puff of smoke. “She can take care of herself. Plus, she’s got that rich dad of hers to call.”
Jax punches me, hard, on my arm. “You’re such a jerk.”
“I know,” I reply calmly, taking another drag of my blunt as he lights his own. “Let’s watch something.”
Jax reaches for the remote and turns on the tv. “Your tv is weird. What do you do with all these buttons?”
“Press all of them and hope they do the right thing,” I joke. Jax shakes his head and face-palms. “No, but seriously…” I take the remote from him, click a series of buttons, and the tv turns on.
“So you really just left her?” Jax asks suddenly.
“For Christ’s sake!” I yell. Jax gives me a warning look.
“Don’t bring the big man into this,” he says. Jax is a big Christian. And while I believe in him and all, I don’t go to church. At times, I guess, I’m an atheist.
“Whatever,” I say, rolling my eyes.
“But, seriously, you’re such a jerk. You save her from getting raped and then leave her at the hospital?” he punches me in my arm, and I throw a beige pillow at him. He catches it with ease and throws it back with lightning speed. He is a pitcher in baseball.
“Essentially,” I respond, taking another drag out of my blunt.
“Jeez,” Jax mutters and turns back to the television.
There’s an awkward moment of silence as we both watch the show that’s on. And then, being the idiot he is, speaks. “Why not call an EMT?”
“God dang it, Jax! I wasn’t thinking, okay? She was hurt pretty bad and she’d just nearly escaped being raped! She didn’t even have a freaking shirt on! I had to freaking put it on before she went into the freaking hospital!” I yelled angrily. Frustrated, I grabbed my soda off the coffee table and run up the stairs and to my room.
