There comes a time in life when you find the ‘need to decide’ on a career path, and I choose to pursue my path within the field of Agriculture. Dominating the current world right now is great controversy between large-scale, and local businesses while trying to bridge the gap between the farm to the table. During a time, where time really isn’t a big concern, now is the best time to support local businesses. I am an advocate for agriculture every single day because I know I will make a change and start by supporting local businesses.
As the large-scale meat packaging plants and chicken operations are taking a hard hit throughout the country, now is the time to support local businesses in your community. They play a vital role but don’t receive the proper credit and appreciation that they deserve. The majority of the locals in your community who own a business depend on it when it comes to supporting their family. Goods and services aren’t the only things local businesses provide to a community, they provide a sense of simplicity and tradition. I feel that these following three points are vital components that local business provides to the community.
Local businesses generate jobs for the community which helps to stimulate community involvement. Most of the time local businesses hire college students for summer which gives them a sense of ease when coming home, I know because I used to be one of them.
By having the support of the community, local businesses allow more money to stay in the community. As of this result, more money staying in the community over time makes the economy become stronger and eventually can lead to those businesses to compete with larger-scale operations. I’ve seen this first hand, having numerous friends with families who run local farm operations in my community
Lastly, local businesses bridge, the gap between the food and the table, educating people on where their food is coming from. Food education is a growing topic not just to those who are an advocate for Agriculture. Food education is the key to a successful world, and I know that because I’ve seen it first hand through my experiences with agricultural education.
So, now is the time. The time to make a decision and support local businesses in your community. It’s time to stop and start learning about how to support local businesses while time isn’t a factor. Because when time becomes a factor again, I can bet you supporting local businesses will be the last thing on your mind.
