This is dedicated to my Grandmother, Anne White, known as “Momma White”. She was our savior, teacher and protector. I miss you so much.
There was a angel in heaven who stood out far from the rest,
The way she walked, the tone in her voice,
she was God’s Best.
She had so much dignity,
the way she stood with pride,
her wings so white, so long, so wide.
The Lord was curiously intrigued,
so favorably impressed,
come on, this was God’s Angel,
so abundantly blessed.
God spoke to the angel “I’m casting you down to a place called earth,
there will be more angels going,
but I’m sending you first”.
“And one more thing”, God said with delight,
“I know your name is Ann but on earth your Momma White”.
“And remember there will be a time, a place, a day,
when things will seem hard,
please don’t forget to pray.
The angel nodded her head,
she was ready to serve,
ready to go to a place called earth,
ready to teach God’s word.
When the angel appeared and stepped foot on this land,
there was teaching to be done,
prayers and plans.
She started with her kids, grandkids and greats(great grandkids),
friends, neighbors, foster kids oooohhh wait,
we can’t forget about the neighbor’s kids, pastors and teachers,
torn hearts, lost souls, usurers and believers.
This was a great task for an average angel to endure,
For this blessed Angel, Momma White, this was a simple task, a simple chore.
Her first teaching was how to get on your knees and pray,
she said thank the Lord every moment, every time, every day.
Sit up at the table,
one hand while you eat,
there was no talking at super,
she was serious, best believe.
Go wash your hand, brush your teethe, wash your face,
take a bath, iron your clothes,
make your bed everyday.
Say yes sir and no maam,
respect authority at all times,
let Momma White find out that you were being disrespectful,
she had something waiting for your behind.
Oohhh respect was the key and Momma White did not play,
she did not care if you were white, black, yellow brown, purple, green or grey.
Her small teachings were so important,
so important right now today,
those small teachings carried us along life’s way.
Stand up, be proud, look a person in the eye,
don’t take “No” for an answer,
there always another road to ride.
Be gracious, be humble,
we’re humans, we stumble,
speak boldly, don’t mumble,
no complaining, don’t grumble
be on time, look professional and always do your best,
those are the reminders of a legacy that was left.
And the parties, all the parties,
we had a party every month,
the lesson learned in parties was family always come first.
So we Thank You Lord for sharing,
A precious Angel so caring,
ready to spread her wings and fly,
fly on high,
Thanks for lending us this precious Angel,
and her name was “MOMMA WHITE”
