You’re not actually thinking of going, right?” Lorelai “Lori” Fields asked as she sat down at her usual lunch table. Her hair was up, as usual, in a high ponytail, though a few of the wavy strands fell into her eyes. She was dressed casually, in a grey hoodie and leggings, as usual.
Levi Terry looked up from his phone, the invite open. A few of his curls fell onto his forehead as he met her gaze, a lopsided grin lighting his face up. “I mean, of course I am. Not many kids get invited.”
Lori rolled her eyes, glancing distastefully at her tasteless corn and salty baked potato soup. “Hide and seek is so grade school.”
“Not when it’s this large-scale,” Levi argued, and Lori shot him a look. She opened her mouth to retort, but before she could respond, Courtney Min sat down beside her.
“What are we talking about?” she asked with a smile.
“Lori and I got invited to the upperclassmen Hide and Seek,” levi responded, “and she doesn’t want to go.”
“Seriously?” she asked, looking between the two. “You’re insane, Lori. That [crap] is invite-only! You have to go.”
Lorelai shook her head, tearing into her pack of plastic utensils. She scooped up a spoonful of the soup, sipping on it.
“It just seems pointless,” was her sole response, and Courtney rolled her eyes.
“You’re gonna go if I have to drag you there,” she said, and Lori’s shoulders sagged. Courtney was a driving force; Lori knew this was a battle she wouldn’t win.
“Where would we even hide?” Lori asked, a last attempt to get out of it. Levi grinned, and she let out a groan.
“I’ve got a few ideas. Wanna go over to Lawson’s after school to brainstorm?” he asked eagerly, and Lori hung her head, shrugging as she spooned another bit of soup into her mouth.
“I have practice until six, but you can come over around six-thirty. I’m sure my moms would be happy to have you; they’ve been missing you,” she said, and Levi nodded.
“See you then,” was his response as the final lunch bell rang.

Your writing is fluid and your characters are well-developed. This is the first writing of yours I have come across, but I look forward to more!
Thank you so much for the feedback. I typically tend to write in the romance/sci-fi/fantasy/dys(u)topia area, so mystery is new to me, but I look forward to exploring it further.
