If you’re honest,
If you’re kind,
If you pay any mind
To the world of things you can find,
You can make what’s wrong right.
A lie will spoil the heart,
A slandering tongue will spoil the life,
But honesty and love will bring people together, not apart,
And will take away pain and strife.
Honesty is more than the words you say,
It’s the truth that lies between your mind and mouth,
And the hope that all that’s good won’t go south.
Honesty is a pledge to always tell the truth,
And to be the basis of facts, or the foundation for a friend, like Ruth.
Honesty doesn’t cost a penny,
Sometimes it can cost a life,
Yet it is honorable, and trustworthy,
And never bought with pain and strife.
