Walking down a lonely street
Devoid of bodies, but yes, full of the mind’s frequent guests
They are indeed strange characters! On the sidewalk, there I meet
They greet my mind with flamboyant acts, and colorful theories they suggest
When Joy comes to shake the hand of my soul,
Her fanciful laughter strums the strings of my own heart!
“I beg thee to move me, Joy! Move me to life made whole!
Move me to sing Halleluiah to God, and to dance to every beat’s part!”
When Anger comes to assault my peace,
His violent screams and mighty fists put my spirit in war
“I beg thee to move me, Anger! Move me to let this poison release!
Move me to chant a battle hymn for justice, and to dance in strife, till it’s no more!”
When Sadness comes to bid her greeting,
Her plaintiff wailings cast a shadow of gloom
“I beg thee to move me, Sadness! Move me to tears and bleeding!
Move me to sing a dirge for committed sins, and to dance the mourner’s dance of doom!”
When Confusion comes to meet my eyes,
His shifting shapes and shifting words leave my soul baffled!
“I beg thee to move me, Confusion! Move me to seek Truth in cloudy skies!
Move me to sing the Lord’s Prayer for guidance, and to dance while words are muffled!”
I am moved! Yes, I am indeed deeply moved!
I am moved by these visits, and inspired by their allure!
My mind will observe each wisdom, and will surely use them for good
My soul will heed to avoid their vices, so as to remain pure!
