The thousandth time I have stumbled,
Down the rocky steppe I clumsily stumble!
My knee bleeds again! A brand new gash on my shin!
“I cannot make it!” My mind cries again and again
Why do I try! I end up weaker then before!
I give it another try, yet I just fall harder all the more!
When I attack once more, the challenge hurls me downward,
He laughs at my face: “You’re foolish to press onward!”
When my spirit hears this, it shouts a battle cry from the depths
Oh, but my mangled body! If I go on, I may meet Death!
“I cannot make it!” I surrender to the daunting beast
My body slowly caving…… I won’t suffer this fight any more at least…
But then the fire rekindles! My spirit bellows from within:
“For the sake of your honor! This battle you must win!”
At the sound of that rally, my body leaps up with vigor
I no longer feel the cuts, the inferno of passion, my spirit did trigger!
“I cannot make it!” I used to say,
But who says this is true? I’ve been lying every day!
My body has flesh and bones, but my soul has so much more!
When my eyes see a wall, my spirit perceives an open door!
