Math class, i’m slouching
pen tracing designs
instead of integers
Watching you from across the room
(I promise it’s not creepy)
The teacher talks funny,
thinks we’re always
laughing with him
You can always make him laugh
(I wish you laughed more)
You’re tables away, and you can
give an answer without
your heart pounding
How are you so confident?
(I promise I’m not staring)
Lunch, you’re front and center
friends like bees buzzing, and
you’re the queen
Reigning over everything
(I wish i was next to you)
I sit trapped in the past, with
people i don’t know anymore
yearning for adventure
Slowly suffocating me
(I promise I’ll find some courage)
Math class the next year, already
you’re outshining everyone
i missed you
You are still the brightest star
(I wish you knew that)
Math is fun now, with you here
good teacher, bad subject
but i’m okay
Straight As vs. wavy lines dominating the page
(I promise I’ll stop doodling so much)
It’s slow, our friendship
you’re like home, like comfort
I still hesitate
But you’re still listening
(I wish I could be accurately eloquent)
Now i can see the sun, not the clouds
You’re there on the rainy days
Life seems brighter
I’m pouring myself in you
(I promise I’ll keep your secrets)
Graduation day, it’s time
For everyone else to leave but
You’re with me
Taking the next step together
(I promise I’ll stand by you)
Summer passes, I see you again
It’s been much too long
Hugging, crying, laughing
How did I get lucky enough to have you miss me?
(I wish I knew)
