Chapter 2
“Oh!!!!! Look at this place Liz! Your parents are the best ever… oh I have got to pick my room.” As always Ann was on cloud nine, she never seemed to be sad. Oh she had, had her moments, usually after she had broken up with a guy, when she would be sad and melancholy for a day or two but she always found her spark. I on the other hand was she and had very little self confidence; that was why my mother had insisted I take this trip. She said I needed the opportunity to make a mistake or two. “I think we may just have to leave her and tell my parents she ran away…what do you think?” I laughed, Alic had always threatened to leave Ann but in reality he never would. “I think you would be completely bored without her, I know I would.” “You’re right. Shall we go find our rooms?” Alic let me walk up the stairs first. The only two rooms left were right next to each other. I took some time relax and unpack, 10 minutes later I heard Ann, “I’ll be at the beach if anyone want’s to join me!” I ran to my door hoping to catch her, “We need to go buy groceries…” But I didn’t. A few minuets later I heard a knock on my door, it was Alic, ‘Did I hear someone mention food?” I rolled my eyes, yes you did.” I had just put away my clothes, “I’ll come with you, you know Ann if there is a beach she will be on it.” I looked at him, “I thought you were chaperoning Ann this trip?” Alic smiled, “And you believe that is possible? Come on Liz, you know that is impossible. I am here more to step in if she gets too wild.” (Now I feel that I should note that Ann was not completely wild or carless, she just knew how to make the best out of life and enjoy her time.) “So why did you come?” I ask as we walked down the stairs, “A free trip to Greece, who would turn that down.”
The walk to the market wasn’t far from the cottage. The market was as cute as you would expect; Alic and I ended up spending the whole afternoon looking through the little shops and stands. By the time we got back it was late afternoon, Ann was laying on the back patio soaking up the last rays of the day. Dinner that night was simple just sandwiches. At night the Grecian sky is beautiful; after diner I decided to take a walk on the beach. While my mother wanted me to loosen up this summer, I wanted to find where I belonged. I knew it wasn’t back home in my mothers world of tea luncheons and fancy parties. I also didn’t want to settle down right away and miss out on life like I had in school. Always studying, always doing exactly what I wanted to do. I was deep in thought when I heard, “Someone is lost in thought.”
“Alic, I didn’t realize you were there.” He smiled, “I know, I’ve been standing here waiting for you to notice me. Then I figured I should say something. What’s on your mind?” He walked closer, “Just the future.” I said nonchalantly, “Oh yea?” He looked at me. “You are supposed to be on vacation, you know that thing people do to escape life for a little bit?” He chuckled, then he got quiet, “I know what you mean though, it a heavy thing thinking about the future. What choices you should make, what path you should walk down.” “If my mother had her way I would be headed down the same path she took.” While I loved my mother, the thought of that made me sad. “My dad wants me to go into his business, you know though…I just cannot see myself as lawyer.” “What do you see yourself as?” He stopped walking and looked down at me, “I would like to travel the world with, you can’t laugh…” “I won’t” I told him, “I want to travel the world with my wife. See things that have not been seen before with the one person whom I love the most.” I smiled up at him, “You said you wouldn’t laugh, “I am not laughing. I think that would be wonderful.” His hand grazed mine ever so slightly, his touch sent shivers down my spine. Stepping away I said, “It’s getting late. I am tired, I should be getting to bed.” I didn’t wait for him to say good night, I just ran away as quickly as I could.
