It is unreasonable to expect a person to remember what she didn’t know had happened.
The woman cried for help and shouted. No one could hear her in a desert. She was chained, stoned, whipped and beaten.Yet she refused to give up so easily. Her nose and back bled profusely, dripping on the hot concrete.
“I told you a million times before!I don’t know……”
Her voice trailed off and was cut off by a cracking sound made as it hit the red, bony flesh.
It is unreasonable to expect a person to remember what she didn’t know had happened. How did I end up in a torture cell in Afghanistan?I silently prayed to God to end this insanity.Four people were present there and witnessed it all.We were being trained in the utmost inhumane way possible.I wanted to close my ears and shout.I knew if I did this then I would be treated in the same way as this woman.
A week earlier,a group of people entered the army territory and managed to enter their weapon’s keeping area, which is restricted to only a few.Seconds later, a bomb exploded as ashes flew far with and the sound was deafening. The group either managed to escape before planting the bomb or this was suicide bombing.Hopeless, they found a woman, around her mid-30’s outside the army territory. The army and the Taliban were only known for their cruel and harsh ways.Nevertheless, this is how the women ended up in a torture cell.To top it all, when they found her,she was unconscious due to the blast wave in that vicinity.
The four-walled room seemed to be closing up on me as I took deep breaths.I could see the disgusted expressions of the four people standing beside me.The woman’s back bent forwards and her hands shivered.A tank of water was brought forward as I cringed at the pathetic ways of torturing innocent human beings that they called innovative.
The torturer’s name was Major Akbar and we had learned that the woman’s name was Saleha. Her scarf lay aside on the ground with her hair loose on her shoulders. The woman screamed and my blood boiled with anger.Major Akbar grabbed her hair and pushed her face into the chilling water. He kept her in that position for 30 sec.Her struggling, feeble body gave up.She no longer moved.
Major Akbar had a grim smile on his face.He enjoyed every minute of this insanity.
Was he even human?
I couldn’t take this any longer.I charged up to him at full speed and landed a punch on his face.Blood oozed out of his nose but he didn’t let go of Saleha. She had only seconds to live.
The other four stood there flabbergasted.Their feet were glued to the ground and they didn’t know how to respond.I felt spasms of pain spread throughout my body as he retaliated by hitting a rock hard wooden stick on my backbone.I fell to the ground.
He let go of Saleha.
My rib cage was on the verge of breaking into pieces when he kicked me with his army boot.
“You don’t show any sympathy for these bastards!Do you understand?”
I did not respond.
He kicked me again and I gasped.
“Do you understand?”
My body and mind had enough.
I blacked out.
