People who judge me for my access card
Find some love in your cold heart
I worked 4 jobs last year
I became sick and overworked
so I’m supposed to starve?
talk more ignorance of me being on welfare
I hope you never need it
But I’m not too proud I’ll get what I can
From this CROOKED system when I feel defeated
Some people don’t deserve it you say
For people like you
I pray
No one plans to be financially weak
That access card helps to feed
To the people on welfare
I feel you because I’m there
Wishing society showed compassion
In place of their ignorance
Try practicing kindness
Show you care
You don’t know why my life is thick and corrupt
So I’m telling society to politely SHUT UP
I bounce back from your ignorance
Still keeping my head up

Such a powerful poem. I’m luckily enough and privileged enough to be in a situation where I won’t need an access card in the foreseeable future, but I don’t shame anyone who does. the system is broken, and it’s broken partially because the people in charge only care about making the rich richer and the poor poorer.
I commend you for your hard work. You’re truly an inspiration.
