Who could ever understand the ways of love, it’s never the same yet in many ways it always returns to what’s in the heart!
Divorced a year over
few times dating
serious never a moment
but she’d been thinking
before off to college
someone whose kisses yet taste
his warm arms her mind etched
she had married another
and he was just an old friend.
His face now a constant memory
why had he come back into her life
sound of his voice scarcely
years now seemed she had no right
why had she started thinking of him
was it thoughts of the past
nights together whisperin’
he seemed now like a spell cast
becoming more than just an old friend
Phone number someone knew
one number at a time till ringing
a voice stirred the love that brewed
words hard an old love clinging
finally, “I’ve been thinking of you”
he said, “you I’ve never forgotten”
he drove three hours
seems love, mysterious powers
love again, with an old friend!
First of all, your poem is haunting. I love your word choice and how the sentences spill into the thoughts of the next. I’ve never even dated and I still feel like the lady who spends her days on the docks looking out at the sea, waiting for a ferry to bring my long lost love back to me. Second of all, I’m so happy things worked out as well as they did! It’s hard to reconnect at times, but strong bonds don’t break so easily.
Though, I just wanted to mention that the bottom of your poem mentions a photo but I don’t see it. It could be an issue with posting, so I just wanted to let you know!
Thanks for your comment and as I was reading your comment about standing on the docks looking out at sea, for some reason I was thinking of the note in the bottle floating (love note). Maybe his love note to you at anytime, I hope the best for you and thanks again.
Oh and the photo is only at the very outset of the poem and all ..sorry for the confusion!
