Chapter 2
The man had decrypted Indies phone he was watching smoke pouring out of the shop. The fire will get rid of most traces of Indies body, and unless the police were looking for the body it was unlikely they’ll find any sign of it.
He was looking over the texts that Indie had sent, it looked like Indie had been talking to someone under the name B-man in his phone. He didn’t like it when people did that. It made it irritating when he tried to follow the trail of his hunt.
Indie. I want you to gather your crew and smoke out the competition. Take the armored car, they may be preparing.
Understood. The Armored cars tags got compromised tho. It shouldn’t be that bad but there’s a risk a cop may spot the vehicle.
I don’t want any risks. Contact John. have him replace your tags tonight.
Understood. Your authorized to use the armory.
That bad? Alright boss i’m on it.
The man shook his head. So they were meeting at a place called the armory. If indie had needed GPS to drive here it often has a feature that allows you to retrace your steps. He accessed the driving app and there it was. He smiled to himself the hunt would continue.
Brian Poloski was loading rounds into a magazine. He had done this many times and he didn’t enjoy it. But he had his mother and 3 younger siblings to think about. After his father had been killed by a rival gang Brian vowed to take his place. He was only 16 but had survived quite a few scrapes. He fed his family, as his father would have wanted.
‘A man does whatever it takes to take care of his family’. Those were the words Brian had been taught as a kid, and that was what he was going to do.
“Indie should’ve been back by now.” said Zach. Zach was, by all means, a crack head. He had no self control, no money, no support. The only reason he was doing this was for his next fix. Unfortunately, this made him a nervous wreck. Always paranoid, always hyper, always annoying.
He was right of course. Indie should have returned maybe a half hour ago. They needed the tags if they were going to do this without any risk. And then they needed time for the message to go out to all the patrol to not be on the lookout. Not really a big deal but still a risk the boss didn’t want.
“Shut up Zach.” Brian said. He listened and heard a car coming down the lone country road. That’s why they liked this place they’d be able to hear anyone coming at them from a mile away. “See? That’s probably him now.
The other guys laughed. They had a crew of five. Indie, Brian, Zach, Roy, and Harley.
The car sound kept getting louder with no sign of it slowing down.
Harley went over and took a look at the window. Light was beginning to stream in from outside as the headlights got closer. His eyes went wide and he yelled something, before Indies truck came bursting through the door. Brian dove to the side out of the way as the truck ran over Harley as he screamed.
The truck finally stopped and Brian grabbed a shotgun they were preparing and stuck a round in.
“What the hell Indie?!” he yelled, leveling the shotgun at the drivers window. It was empty. Roy and Zach were both starting to get up, trying to find out what had happened. Roy grabbed a revolver and Zach seemed to shell shocked to do anything. He usually stayed in the car and just drove. He wasn’t used to this.
Brian saw the glint of medal behind Roy and Brian cried out. It was too late from behind Roy a man in a hoodie slit Roy’s throat. Roy tried to spin around and point the revolver at him but the man expertly caught the weapon and twisted it out of Roy’s hand. The man backed up and shot Roy in the chest.
Zach, being closest, freaked out. He screamed and threw whatever he could find at the man. Couch cushions, cleaning bottles, actual guns. He bought himself enough time to make a mad dash away from the man, who was aiming at Zach when Brian leveled his shotgun at him.
The man barely had enough time to dive out of the way before Brian fired. The shot wasn’t wide spread it was a buckshot. Single slug. It punched a hole where the man’s head had been. Brian ejected the round and tried to fire again but only heard a clicking sound. He had only loaded one round!
Zach had gotten into Indies truck and started backing out as the man fired at Brian. The bullet caught his shoulder, knocking him back and sending white hot spikes of pain shooting up his shoulder.
Zach had gotten the car out and was racing down the driveway. The man emptied the revolver but the car kept going. The man cursed and threw the revolver on the ground. He saw Harley groaning on the ground and the man set on him like a wild animal, stabbing him over and over as Brian tried to crawl towards another weapon. It hurt to move, making it slow going.
He was only inches away when the man boot landing on his hand. Brian cried out at the pain and even more when the man turned him over. He felt the blade against his throat.
“You’re going to tell me the name of that man. The one that ran away.”
“Zach.” Brian didn’t think, he just spoke. “Zach Ostrich.”
“Thank you.” the man drew his knife back.
“Wait!! Please! Don’t kill me! I’m just trying to take care of my family!”
“What’s your name?” the man growled.
“Brian. My names Brian.” he stammered.
“Well Brian.” he said. “You should have chosen a better profession.”
And with those words, Brian saw the blade came down.
