My Little Angel

Chapter One 4 Years Ago Chicago, Illinois
My birthday was only one day away. Even though I protested against a huge celebration, my friends, Tess and Ash, believed otherwise. They had something spectacular planned, according to Ash. In my mind I was dreading their surprise.
Tess couldn’t keep the secret contained and told me after history class.
I was about to head in the cafeteria for lunch when a voice said behind me, “Yo! You sittin’ with me, gurl. ”
There stood Tess, her curly black dreads hanging over her left eye. The feature that stood out the most on her face was ” Sexy Red ” lipstick. Her skin was the color of fudge frosting.
“Don’t worry, Tess. I always sit with you,” I replied, following her to the cafeteria line.
A bunch of high school seniors were at the front, girls were hugging their boyfriends’ waists.
“Where’s Ash?” I asked, looking around the packed tables.
“Oh . . . ya know goin’ to the can as usual,” answered Tess with a funny smile.
I definetly knew that look. She wasn’t telling me the truth.
“Really, what’s going on?”
She muttered while smirking, “You’ll find out.”
After we finally got our food, we headed to Table D. You might define Table D as: Nerd Hangout. Yeah, we were smart, but it’s better to have brains than flunk everything. Tess and I called Table C, the gathering of popular kids, the “Duh Area. ”
Tess slowly peeled her orange as Ash bounded up to where I was sitting.
“Hey all!” she cried joyously.
She was Tess’s sister which produced many similarities between them. The only thing different was that her hair fell in shiny black waves instead of dreads. She had a kind and sweet personality, but she and Tess always ended up in trouble. Ash and Tess were two peas in a pod.
“Why are you so happy, Ash? Isn’t that test in chemistry after lunch?” I asked, taking a bite out of my cheese sandwich.
“Welp, you’ll know tomorrow night. And DON’T remind me about chemistry,” replied Ash. She looked at Tess with a satisfied smile.
“Now you’re worrying me,” I said.
“We should probably tell her. She’ll not get any sleep if we don’t,” grumbled Tess. She sipped her 12 oz. bottle of water to eliminate any food particles in her teeth.
“Fine, you do it then,” said Ash disappointed. Ash was hoping their plan would stay a surprise.
I waited for Tess to talk, instead she continued swishing water in her mouth.
“Tess, get it over with!” snapped Ash.
“Okay okay! Do you have the fake IDS?” she asked her sister.
My eyebrows furrowed in concern as Ash placed three of them on the table. I don’t know how they did it, but I looked about 21 in the ID picture . . . not a blonde-haired 17 year old.
“What are these for?” I questioned them.
Tess said grinning, “We goin’ clubbin’, Meg! SURPRISE!”
“Happy 18th birthday,” mumbled Ash.
“How did you get them?” I asked.
“Easy peasy . . . my cousin, Janette, is a tech-savy gurl and she made these for us,” said Tess.
The bell was about to ring for class, so I hurriedly gave my decision.
“I don’t think I’m in.”
Ash and Tess blankly stared at me.
“You’re jokin’ right?” asked Tess, feeling the fun idea being smashed to bits.
“I don’t know . . . I mean it sounds fun, but what if our parents find out? Mom and Dad will kill me. They think I’m a college girl not a wild party animal.”
“PLEASE, MEG, you can’t say no!” cried Tess.
“If you back out, I’ll give you the worst noogie ever,” explained Ash, her long nails tapping on the table. She must’ve thought displaying the weapons was posed as a threat.
“Alright . . . I’ll go, only on one condition. If my parents discover what we did YOU TWO are telling them it was YOUR idea. Deal?” I said sternly.
They both nodded.
Before I could rush to the chemistry lab, they wrapped their arms around me for a quick squeeze.
“You won’t regret it ,” squealed the sisters triumphantly.
My teenage life was about to spin out of control like a disco ball very, very soon . . .
