My Little Angel

Prologue Present Day
” Mommy, come look at this! ” begged my baby blue-eyed toddler from the living room.
I wiped my hands on the red that folded over the oven’s handle. The smell of freshly cut tomatoes filled the air. I was making my daughter’s favorite; spaghetti.
” Coming! ” I called back to her, taking my polka-dot apron off.
She would probably suck me into playing ” Sock Monkey Wedding, ” so it was better to be prepared.
My child sat on the carpet, her legs splayed wide open. Her tiny fingers placed a napkin bridal veil on the sock monkey’s head.
” Miss Sally is going to get married! ” she said, pointing to another monkey whose name was Mr. Red Lips.
When she was only two, I gave her Mr.Red Lips for her birthday. She looked at his face and giggled, ” Meester Ra Loops! ” The name has stuck ever since.
If I had went with my parents’ decision a couple of years ago, my angel wouldn’t be around today. Each and every day with her is a blessing.
The memories of how she got in my arms for the very first time re-surfaced in my head. I pictured her small tongue sticking out of her mouth. It craved a mother’s warm milk and a full tummy.
I mumbled under my breath while stroking her curly, golden locks, ” My little angel . . . ”
