Nod to Me
If you pass me by
and see the frustration in my eyes
nod to me
If you stand to my side
and sense the weight of my woes
nod to me
If you step in my shadow
and witness my weary steps
nod to me
With a tilt of your head
your understanding expression
be my momentary inspiration
to push for just a bit more
With no words and only a look
be my brother to hold me up
with only strength of gentle silence
be my sister to embrace my tears
And if you see me
struggling with my day to day
nod to me
Let our woes be shared
let our hearts unite
let our souls lift up
knowing we are not alone in this
and nod…. to me

Backstory:
I was waiting at a light and saw an elderly lady coming down a sidewalk. She looked so very tired and worn out from the day and was pulling one of those little foldable personal grocery carts behind her. As our eyes met, I gave her a knowing nod and she gave a nod back. I wrote this with no edits.
