I lay in comfort ‘neath ancient apple
tree, watching my belovëd toil happ’ly
in yonder acre of cucumber plants
and tomatoes aplenty.
O, how the years have past since first we met,
a willing soul who took this wayward heart
and honed it to submission with patient
love and tenderness.
Never once refraining from nourishing
my restless attention with selflessness
beyond comprehension.
A sigh of thankfulness to gods that be,
for watching us these many years with hope
of peacefulness now encompassing.
My belovëd approacheth with dirty
hands, sweat-stainëd clothes, and beguiling smile;
and lay quietly beside me where smell
of body and soul now hovers so close
my heart doth leap with joy and thankfulness.
Together in perfect silent harm’ny
‘neath ancient apple tree, gazing upon
yonder acre filled with cucumber plants
and tomatoes aplenty.
Resting happ’ly in the nourishing warmth
of an ever-giving Sun, a gentle
breeze visits with blest smells of mother earth,
Oh, thankful Amen.
