One-Idea Development Speech
The fast-paced evolution of technology is taking over our lives and is negatively affecting this generation. Social issues are being developed as a result of the technology which is consuming us.
-A social issue (also called a social problem or a social illness) refers to an issue that influences and is opposed by a considerable number of individuals within a society.
-In 2008, just 16 percent of the world’s working population was qualified as hyper-connected, but a study predicted that 40 percent of the population would soon meet the criteria.
-I have been to restaurants and witnessed the very cause of these social issues. Families go out to dinner and eat together but remain focused on their phones the entire time. They do not communicate with each other, leading their kid’s deprivation of real life communication.
-This generation of people relies on technology so much, it is as if they are being sucked into a black whole where nothing else exists. We live in our own heads and are too focused on our technological devices to spend quality time with other people.
-Professor Vaidnyanathan, specializing in communications said, “When we become habituated to the amazing technological achievements of recent years, we forget to be thrilled and amazed. We lose that great sense of wonder, of awe. We take brilliance for granted and so we ignore the human elements of fortitude, creativity, and intelligence.” Seemingly meaning that we get too wrapped up in our various forms of technology, leading to social issues.
