I haven’t found my power yet, but I have a theory.
Hear me out. Just like everyone else in this world I have to find my soulmate and I believe that they hold my power or powers. Going to school to pursue different powers, I’ve found my soulmate easily. By standing in the middle of our common grounds under an oak tree, I see him. I’ve watched him play football with his friends on the grassy hill right across from me, but he never notices me. Maybe it’s because I don’t have long blonde hair, and any powers. He’s also super hot and popular which I am most definitely not.
Whoa.
Whoa.
Whoa.
He’s waving, Pj Aaron Moore, is waving at me. At me, Ruby Shell, the short, stubby, nerdy girl who no one ever notices. Butterflies start to grow and expand inside my stomach, out through my mouth making me stumble on my words. I wave back, slowly at first and faster as excitement grows. As soon as he comes closer the butterflies become more like stones. This is happening, I can’t believe it. Pj has to be at least three feet away from me, and also the girl who runs out from behind me. They embrace, and now the butterflies turn into embarrassment and vomit. I find myself hunched over my favorite spot to sit. If I didn’t think he noticed me before, boy does he know my face and what I had for breakfast.
I wipe my mouth with the back of my sleeve, drenched in bile I run back to my dorm room. Of course I forgot my key there isn’t a day that anything goes my way. I press my ear to the door to hear if August is in there, but I don’t hear anything. Usually you can hear her talking to herself, not sure if she schizophrenic or crazy or her power is to seem crazy. I hear a loud bang come from the room. I try to flag someone down, but I just kick open the door. I find August laying flat on the ground next to her bed. She must have just fallen off her bed. As soon as I get to her I put my hand underneath her head trying to give her support, but it’s warm and wet. I pull my hand out from underneath her head and realize that its blood. I start freaking out, not knowing what to do. I hold her close to me then All of a sudden I hear:
“They know your power, you must find them or they will banish it forever. Run to them before it’s too late.”
With panic in my voice, “What? Who? Your okay, tell me your okay!”
Tears streaming down my face, blood covering the floor faster than I can help her keep it, left with nothing to do, but to yell for help. Adrenaline rushes through my body, I take her head and squeeze it as hard as I can, in an attempt to put her skull back into place.
“You’re going to be okay! Please. PLEASE. Stay with me! I’m so sorry! It’s going to be okay, just rest”
With that, Augusts’ eyes roll back in her head. I place her head back into the pool of blood. I roll over next to August remembering everything that I did wrong to her. Calling her a crazy bitch, making fun of her for talking to herself, pretending like I was talking to her invisible friend. I take a second to remember what she said.
“They know your power, you must find them or they will banish it forever. Run to them before it’s too late.”
Who are they? Where do I find these people? I get up, walking over to my bed to get my phone off the charger.
Two unread messages;
Brother: Sup sis when is grandpa’s birthday again? You know just put my name on whatever you got him, it’ll be from both of us. Lol.
Bestfriend: Urgent! TEXT ME!
I ignore both their texts, locking my phone.I look over at August, watching her blood run underneath her bed.
