Because of the newest advancements in technology, one is able to access vast amounts of information by a click of a button or a tap of a finger. This convenience, although may seem very useful to many, is masking a dangerous pitfall. As our minds are constantly taking in huge amounts of information a day, it slowly loses its ability to process and is fastened on the receiving end. When we do not process our information we lose our ability to think to ourselves, resulting in the loss of individuality. Individuality and creativity are linked. One cannot have individuality without creativity and vice versa. Since these characteristics are very important in life, it is necessary to find a way to preserve these traits in our increasingly impersonal world.
Everything has a positive and negative. Although technology has help man since the beginning of our time, it comes with a cost. Slowly we are drawing closer and closer to impersonal lifestyles. This is because as more and more technologies develop, we become more and more reliant. Although we are seemingly all connected and communicating interpersonally through devices like the smart phone, we are not making direct contact with each other. The phrase “hanging out with friends” evolved from group adventures to four people texting each other in the same room. The livelihood of the past is slowly dying as more and more people would rather send emojis than give actual facial expressions.
Teenagers are the most susceptible to losing their creativity in this society. For example, often times, teens can be found listening to endless music. However, when they are put to the task of creating music for themselves, seldom can they produce music that is meaningful. Teens listen to the music for the “hype” or beat. Unfortunately, they don’t pay nearly as much attention to the reason why the artist wrote the lyrics, what the lyrics really mean. If listeners actually paid attention to those things, their creativity will come naturally if they processed the information given.
In modern times, people buy and sell products using online services. However, this takes away the individuality of the seller. When a fashion designer loads his catalog to the internet, buyers cannot feel the texture of the clothing. Resulting with the lack of data for the designer to analyze to help meet customer demand, therefore losing his individuality or uniqueness over how he solves the problems compared with other designers. Fortunately, online sellers can preserve their individuality by testing their products on focus groups or sending out samples.
The world is spinning faster and faster. People become busier as new technologies come to life like bees in the spring. Many fear that this reliance on technology creates impersonal lifestyles that slowly diminished our creativity and individuality. For example, the attraction to cellphones has had great impacts on direct communication. However great this problem may seem to be, it is quite simple to solve. Before you leave the house to go somewhere, just think. Do I really need to bring my cellphone? And if the answer is no, leave your phone at home. Go out the whole day without looking at an Instagram page. Talk with new people. Go on new adventures.

Great post!
I like how you highlight individuality being linked to creativity. I think you make a great point about how people are very much linked to their phones these days and this has a negative effect on developing interpersonal connections via face to face conversations. However, I will pose the argument that phones are not necessarily diminishing individual’s creativity. In fact, I would say that immense amount of information that we are exposed to actually has a positive effect on individuality because people are no longer scared to show who they are if they are able to connect with others on the internet that can relate. We have much more access to things that can develop creativity- posting our own music on YouTube, selling our handiwork on Etsy, and even posting our writings on NoahEducationFund! Technology gives us an outlet to show others our creativity and develop relationships based on common interests.
I don’t think the Internet or a phone limits creativity but supports it. That is why it is such a fast growing area. Creativity can be something so little that one may not measure it as creativity. As for as communication, phones and the internet are decreasing the use of it by emojis. As far as individuality we develop it not at one moment but over our lifetime.
