Poetry is words making love,
non-fiction the house of divorced words,
and my hands painting words against the rain is jealously
for all the times
it has touched your skin lightly, roughly, constantly
while I have been dry

I like this poem a lot. To me it seems like you’re talking about writer’s block…very meta, very cool! 🙂 My favorite line is “non-fiction the house of divorced words” and the line I struggle with the most is “Poetry is words making love”. Do you find poetry romantic or pretty? Or maybe it’s a good phrase considering ‘making love’ can be messy, difficult, and complicated….Then again, words are simply words. There is a gap between them and their referents, so can they do something as complex as that, even metaphorically? I don’t know, but it’s thought provoking!
I love that this poem has you thinking deeply and I’m glad you enjoyed it! One thing I hate to do is tell people how to think or feel when it comes to poetry, so what I meant doesn’t always matter. I think what matters most is how it makes you feel and think. Once a poem leaves my arsenal it belongs to you. For me, it is shed skin. I wore it once and I flaunted it, but now it is yours and examining the life is had before does you no good. You have to think about what to do with it now.
