America is probably the cruelest place to live,
This is a developed country,
With the most money,
Yet so little to give,
Why is it that our inmates get such unfair accommodations,
I mean don’t misinterpret that line,
Punishment is just fine,
But why cause more tribulations,
They are regular people,
No matter what they have done,
They make mistakes just as everyone,
So why not treat them as equal,
The rooms are unsanitary and there are no separate restrooms,
This should be
One of the key reasons
You wouldn’t want anyone to ever arrest you,
Yet it doesn’t stop there,
They put you on certain levels depending on influenced behavior,
Or if you and an inmate have a miscommunication,
They place you into the ‘hole’ for confrontation,
Leaving you with no one to call on but your Savior,
And what’s worse, they enslave you,
They work you sour,
For 30 cents an hour,
And depending on your behavior you’re lucky if they pay you,
After this you’d at least want a proper meal,
There’s no reason anyone should have to
Check if their meat is finished and real,
Making decent food doesn’t take much skill,
Have you found your heart on the shelf yet,
And referring back to the irony of being enslaved,
Did you know that black men make up roughly 34% of the population,
If you find that hard to believe that history is currently repeating itself you need a serious reality check,
How has America become so complacent,
With still having knowledge of this,
To still have the audacity to brainwash our kids,
Into becoming just as racist,
I long for the unfairly judged to be set free from the hands of the government,
And for the serial killers,
And the rapist, child molesters and sex offenders,
To receive capital punishment,
It is unnecessary for drug dealers and thieves to get a double digit charge,
A couple years would suffice,
But there is no way any human should have to sacrifice,
Most of their life behind bars.

Wow this speaks to me. I heard of this concept before of slavery just taking on a different form. Political leaders don’t invest in the black community and then before you know it prisons are filled with blacks. I love people who let their art present a pressing idea. I think this is great. My only critique would be to shorten the lines in some places just so the flow won’t be damaged.
Thank you so much for the advice! This is the energy that I appreciate! I will use this to edit my poem, Contact me if you would like to connect me on some creativity.
