Rehabilitation
It’s such an interesting concept for me
Such an innocuous idea
Of someone’s expectations
You didn’t live up to
I mean
A system that failed you
What I’m trying to say is
Did they love you enough
To save you a space
In their world
When you’re all “fixed up”
Probably wasn’t born sick
Ya know
Like all those people
Never expected to
Return from war
Don’t know what to do with them
Thought you were going to
Die for us –
We thought we were worth it
Why don’t you think so
Puppy dog eyes
Please
make us feel like
We’re worth it
By living on the streets
Don’t you love us –
Should have died
Then maybe
You wouldn’t be suffering.
Such a pity.
But aren’t you happy
Of all you suffered
Because, we’re so happy
You see.
Aren’t you happy for us?
Love.
Rehabilitation –
I’m proud of you
And I hope
Someone
Saved you a seat.
I hope they love you,
Legitimately.
I hope
Your future is
A life
Where healing
Doesn’t feel like
A cruel joke.
I feel you.
