The next day I woke up and got dressed for the day. Leo texted me letting me know my first meeting was with Gregory at noon. He set up both meetings at Amy’s café. I sat down at a corner booth in the café and waited with my usual coffee and scone. Leo respects my routine enough to even set up meetings around it. I have to give this guy a raise. One thirty rolled around and I still waited on my fourth cup of coffee and my third scone. I got on the phone and called Leo. “Hey buddy, what happened with this Gregory guy? He’s aware of the meeting, correct?” “Yes, sir, I sent him a text and email about the meeting last night before I left the office. I’m assuming he’s not there. would you like me to contact him?” Leo asked. “No. if he didn’t show up, he’s obviously not very serious about the job. Maybe he received a better opportunity.” I said as I hung up the phone. My next meeting with Samantha was in an hour and a half. I walked around the corner to the museum of natural history and walked around for the time remaining. I got side tracked in the safari section and realized I was now late. I ran out and up to the café. Accidently bumping into someone to get to the door. I turned to make sure they caught their balance, “im so sorry. Im running extremely late and I didn’t see you there. im so sorry again.” “its okay. Im fine.” I heard a familiar voice say. I turned and looked and it was the same girl from yesterday. I smiled and laughed softly. “I’m also running a bit behind again, I should’ve been watching where I was going im sorry.” She said sweetly. “ that’s alright. Im meeting someone and am late. Im very sorry again.” we shared a slight smile and then I held the door for her to enter first. She went in and looked around, I too entered the café and went to the table I sat waiting for Gregory at earlier that day. I watched as the girl looked around. She sat at the counter and waited as well. i waited ten minutes and when I saw she was waiting as well, I got up from the booth I sat and approached the counter where she sat looking very bored with her hand on her chin and her elbow on the counter. I sat next to her and smiled, “you wouldn’t happen to be Samantha would you?” she looked over and smiled back with a light in her eyes that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forget. “yes, that’s my name. Are you Adam?” she asked politely. “yes ma’am. I am. Adam Howard. You must be Samantha Miller.” I stuck out my hand and she placed hers in mine to shake hello. Her hand was so soft. Her nails freshly manicured and her skin was milky and smooth. The light in her eyes got brighter and her smile got wider. Excitedly she said “wow, its so nice to meet you. You don’t put pictures of yourself on the back of your books so I didn’t know it was you.” “oh, you’ve read my books?” I was surprised she didn’t seem like the type to read those sort of books. Suspense and especially my chidlrens books. “well, I used to teach first grade and I had your books in my library for the kids.” She explained. “what made you stop teaching?” I asked curiously. “I love kids, but my passion is for art.”
