I walked confidently down the LED lit hall, the harassed-looking councilman on my tail. The agents stood on either side of me. I glanced back at the councilman. He tittered nervously, glancing around, eyes wide. It was just the aftermath of the attack. A gang of gunman had attacked our car on the way to the safe zone. It wasn’t the first time it had happened. I recounted at least three attacks in my past on the way to the safe zone in. One of which my defendee had died. That was probably my hardest mission ever. I remember watching him fall limp to the ground. Well, more like felt him fall limp. I had covered him. The bullet had gone straight through my leg and into his chest. I shuttered just thinking about it. I opened the council door. An old man was shuffling through a few papers at the end of the long meeting table. I slid a folder across the sleek surface.
“4196 delivered to safe zone in one piece,” I joked. The old man nodded and opened the folder.
“Any injuries?” He asked.
“No,” I replied, glancing to the council man. He shook his head. “We’re good.”
“Good. Take 4196 to council room 5 and then I need to speak to you,” The old man said.
“Right-O Captain Franc’O,” I said jokingly, him needing to speak to me was not unusual, he probably had a new assignment for me. I led the councilman to the assigned location, and returned to the council room.
“You got yourself a very special assignment,” Captain Franc’O said. He slid an envelope across the table. It contained my pay for the assignment. “You’re our youngest employee here. 16 is a young age to start saving lives. But we need your youth as an advantage. We got a special request of protection from a senator for his son. But you won’t be transporting him here. You’ll be staying with them as a bodyguard of some sorts. This senator is very hated amongst many people. Many threats have been made.” I stared at him. I had never done a job such as this before. At max I had only been with a defendee for a few days.
“H-how long?” I asked.
“A few months. Just until the threats go away. Until then I need you to stay by his side at all times. Be careful, anyone could be a threat,” Franc’O said, not even questioning if I had accepted. I had taken every job he had thrown at me for the past three and a half years.
“Where?” I said.
“Half way across the country. Wyoming,” Franc’O replied. I suddenly got a very sick feeling in my stomach.
“Okay,” I said, swallowing the growing lump in my throat.

I’m intrigued… excellent sneak peak. Just enough to hook your reader, but not so much they don’t feel the need to read the full story. I’m excited to see what you come with!
The only thing I would suggest is to delete the sentence “No better way to get back at him by kidnapping or killing his son.” It directly states what the reader can already infer from the need for protection and the threats being received. Other than that, this looks great!
Thank you s much for the suggestion, and I’m glad you like it!

I can’t wait to see where this story goes! Does the inspiration for your novels just magically come to you or do you have to think hard to achieve ideas? Either way . . . you are a very talented author. Are you thinking about pursuing writing as a career?
Often the inspiration comes to me from reading a book or watching a movie, or just a scene pops into my head and I begin to build a story around it. And yes, I wish to become an author when I am older. I have been dreaming to do so since first grade (and even times before that. I found a few of my childhood notebooks and found remakes of movies (someone had to write them for me)). I have always tried to get my writing out there, which is how I came upon NoahWriting. But I am so young, no one will listen to me! Often when I hand them one of my pieces, they read it and hand it back. They don’t say anything. Thank you so much for the feedback!
