Life is full of disappointments, and many of them stem from our interaction with other humans. Everybody wants to be noticed and loved, even the most hardcore hermit gets lonely sometimes. Maybe that’s why they became an outcast in the first place. Point is, it is painful to be ostracized from your fellows. Feeling unaccepted and under appreciated is a terrible feeling, especially when you know the work you put into your work and trying to reach others through that work.
No, this is not a forum for me to complain about my lack of viewers, and if it comes off that way to those of you who are reading, I genuinely do not intend to do that. I try my best to remove myself from the hole of self pity these days. We have all experienced this at one time or another though, when we put ourselves out there and don’t get noticed, put our heart and soul into a project and get rejected or spend months searching for a good job with no call backs. All of these are troubling situations, nothing about these experiences are comforting or encouraging. Most likely this may push us towards giving up, throwing in the towel, waving the white flag of surrender.
This is a just a call to perseverance. If you believe in any form of God, karma or good purpose of the universe, then it is equally understandable that we get out what we put in. So then we should know if we are giving something 100% then we should understand that in due time that we should be rewarded correct? I think we were all given special abilities and talents and if we are using them in a positive way that can potentially impact a person and cause a chain reaction of motivation, then surely somewhere along the way respect and recognition will come. As with the case of many famous artist and musicians, this did not happen until well after they were dead. Van Gogh sold one painting in his lifetime, a man who’s work would go down to be some of the most applauded in history. Dickinson’s work was not even discovered until after her death when her sister found manuscripts containing her famous pieces, and Poe, although he was published, scrounged by never making enough to truly support himself. All three are some of the most well known names in the creative world still to this day. Their work, and rightly so, will live on far past our lifetime.
The point of this is that we should never give up on our craft or dreams due to the discouragement of a lack of recognition. We are never in control of how we are received anyways, our only purpose is to put ourselves out there, boldly with great courage and stout humility. This is exactly why I committed to my writing in the beginning before I even had a chance to get noticed. I put extensive thought into the decision to self publish my work daily, and yes of course my goal is to have some sort of positive impact and to have my heart bleed out onto this screen, whether that goes noticed or not is completely out of my control.
There is so much in this life that is out of our hands, our future, our destiny, our final resting place and time, but one thing we are in control of is how we use our time and resources. So I want to encourage anyone, if you have something welling inside you and you know deeply that it needs to be set free, then liberate it. Level your pride and remove your lack of self-confidence and feed your soul. Release your gifts and the world will make room. Who cares if someone says you suck and you are wasting your time, do it because that instinct was put in you for a purpose. You know what I am talking about, that one thing that lies in the deepest pit of your gut, that thought that gives you goose bumps and butterflies in the stomach when you day dream about it. Do that, chase that, spit it out! Do not let the world discourage you from taking what God put in front of your reach. He chose to include you in His creation, and your life has a purpose whether you see it or not. Maybe you don’t know what that thing is yet, search patiently and consistently and that revelation will come to you in time, I promise. But we must remove the distractions that stand in the way of our own creative abilities. Whatever you do, never give up on yourself. Life can be noisy and the vulnerability inherently involved with exposing our deepest self is surely frightening, but at the same time that rush you receive from pouring out your soul is better than any artificial high. Free yourself from the opinions of others and liberate your mind! Create until your heart is content. I believe in you!
