As Robin walked in the direction to the cafeteria, she got stopped by a hand on her arm that whirled her around, pulling her into the guy’s grasp. “Hey, Dean.”
She tried not to sound bored, tired, and overall aggravated. Dean didn’t relent with his tight grip, he just grasped onto her other hand and pulled her closer, “Come on babe, wanna skip next period with me?”
“Not today, Dean,” she responded, stuck in his grasp. “I need to stay for all my classes. I have a lot of tests coming up soon. On a totally different note, I need a ride to Becky Williams’ party.”
“Ride? I’ll take you, on one condition,” he said, smirking.
Robin raised an eyebrow, already knowing what it was. “And what might that be?”
“You have to be my date,” he said, intertwining their fingers together.
Resisting the urge to yank her hand away, Robin gulped and nodded a yes.
“Great, babe,” he said, a full grin on his face, “I’ll pick you up at 6.”
Sighing defeatedly, she pulled Dean through the cafeteria doors. After getting food and such, the two sat down at their usual table.

Mackenzie smiled at Wren as she led him through the lunchline, always managing to be touching him. “I recommend the burgers here. However mysterious the meat, they’re amazing for cheat day.”
Feeling uncomfortable with Mackenzie touching him, he just fake laughed at what she’d said and went for the burgers she’d recommended. “Sounds good to me,” he said.
Hooking her arm through his, Mackenzie led him out of the lunchline and to her table. She glanced over at her ex-best friend, only to see Robin already glaring at them.
–
That asshole. That lying asshole. Robin seethed with anger, eyes narrowing in on her ex-best friend and ex-acquaintance. Not even a day of him being here and she’d already staked her claim on him!
“Hey babe, wanna see…” Dean said, trailing off. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, don’t worry. I-I just have to go to the bathroom, be right back,” she said, rushing to get up. Glancing over at Mackenzie’s table once more, she stormed out of the cafeteria, curious gazes following her.
–
After sitting at Mackenzie’s table for 10 minutes, he felt extremely out of place there. It was full of jocks and cheerleaders and those sorts of people. The type of people who used to mess around with him at his old school.
Mackenzie smiled over at him. “Having fun, Wren?”
He planted a fake smile on his face and said, “Yeah, your friends are nice.”
Startled by a noise behind them, Mackenzie turned to see her ex-best friend storming out of the cafeteria, and a smirk grew on her face.
Wren turned to look at what she was smirking at and saw an upset Robin running out of the cafeteria. He wondered if he should go after her, but then he remembered how she didn’t want to associate with him and stayed out.
Mackenzie turned back to Wren, rolling her eyes. “Such a drama queen, that one. Don’t pay her any attention. Are you going to Becky’s party tonight?”
“Umm, I don’t know, I might,” Wren said, shrugging.
“Hm, you should. Everyone who means something will be there, including me, wearing a skimpy dress,” she said with a smirk.
Wren didn’t know how to respond to this, so he just gave her an awkward smile and nodded.

Dean and Robin exited the car, Robin’s eyes taking in the massive house before her. She could hardly hear the music from her place on the lawn, but was sure it was playing inside.
Dean dragged her inside and said, “I’m gonna go get us some drinks, be right back, babe.”
“Okay, sounds good,” Robin said, knowing full well that she wasn’t going to drink a single sip of what he’d give her.
