Chapter one: After the Break
“Do I have to go back to school,” I asked my mom before going to bed.
“Yes, I need to leave early in the morning, so remember to set your alarm.”
“Fine.” I looked at her disappointed. Tomorrow I have to go, now I’m forced to go, back to school, we just had been winter break. The reason I don’t want to go is because of my friends. They aren’t happy about me right now. Especially my best friend, Isabella Price. She’s so rich, but that is not why I became friends with her.
She was kind and let me complain about stuff, I told her everything… even my crushes. Apparently, I didn’t go to my best friends’ cousin, Stacie, party, not birthday party. I told them I had a swimming meet, but they still didn’t believe me. I don’t think is such a big deal because Stacie is a major brat, and all her other “friends”!
Anyways, I only have one friend to talk to at lunch, Boston. Which I can’t complain. He brings a few of his friends, Josh Truman and Conner Smith. They’re both nerds, not going to lie. All of them let me complain and talk about my friends. It’s kinda great having people to talk to.
Before I go to bed, I write in my diary. Usually ideas of scripts or feeling I need to get out. I never set out my outfit, I just wing it in the morning. I always get comfy then I forget I need to brush my teeth, or I need to go to the bathroom. Then I watch YouTube, which I know I shouldn’t do, but I don’t care. My dreams are always weird and pointless. One time I had a dream that my family turned into sandwiches, sorry I mean sand witches. Witches of the sand, who made the best sandwiches. Weird.
“BEEP<BEEP<BEEP!” I suddenly woke up to the sound of my alarm clock.
“Ugh,” Do I really have to wake up. I rubbed my eyes and walked into the bathroom to take my morning pee. Went to wash my hands and looked in the mirror.
“Ew, wait did I do?” I really look like a true potato. I jumped in to the shower to cure my fizzy but oily hair. I first wash my hair with shampoo, then conditioner. I smelled really bad, so there goes the body wash. I like my body wash because it smells like green apples. I jumped out of the shower, which was a bad idea because the floor was wet, and the mat wasn’t there. Let’s just say I fell and hit my head. Actually, that’s exactly what happened.
“Ouch!” I said as I rubbed my head back and forth. I slowly I got up and grabbed two towels, one for me and one for the wet floor.
Today can’t get any better, can it. It’s fine. I then went in to my room to get dressed. Then I put my hair in the towel and put on underwear and what not. Then went to the find pants I could wear. Okay, my day is getting back to normal. I found my favorite pants and they weren’t dirty, surprising. I put them on, but because I was still wet, they got stuck half way.
At this point I was jumping up and down holding on the top part of the pants. I finally got them on and continued to find a shirt. I got a cute shirt with flowers on the sleeves and the front is gray for Christmas. I remembered I wanted to wear it when I go back to school. Then I put it on and found plain white socks to wear under my black converse. My outfit was done, but I forgot I had to do my hair.
I walked in to the bathroom and took of the towel on my head and put it on a hook. My hair was almost dry, so I didn’t bother blow drying it. I brushed out the tangles and put it in a high pony tail. I didn’t put on makeup because I don’t care for it, to be honest.
I went down stairs to make cereal, it’s always raisin brand. I’m boring like that, and I like the taste. I ate my food fast, so It won’t get soggy. I grab my backpack to change my classes from B day to A day but looks like someone already did it. I picked up my jacket. I walked to school because my house is across the street to the school.
When I was walking, I was thinking about my schedule and when the next swimming practice was. I wasn’t sure so, I pulled out my phone to look at my calendar. Then I realized that I don’t write in my calendar. I thought maybe I can ask someone… like Riley! Yes, perfect the perfect idea. I’ll have an excuse to see him.
Okay, first I have English, Gym, Creative writing (my favorite class), and math. I can eat with Bosten for and his friends for lunch, and I always pass him from English to gym. Wow, two guys in one day. I laughed in my head, even though its wasn’t funny, or even a joke. By this point I was in the doors of the high school. Today was different because someone, kindly, opened the door for me. I know, I know, not important, but it made my day. I made a glance at the nice person and said a simple word, “thanks.”
“No problem.” She replied
I started walking to put my math binder in my locker when I feel a tap on my shoulder, and it was the same girl.
She glared at me. “Hey, I’m Zofie, sorry I have seen you before?”
“Um…I’m Alex, I’m on the swim team, maybe that’s it?” I replied.
“Not to be a stalker, but I think we have English together. Maybe I can walk with you, I don’t have any other friends anyway.”
“Sure, totally. What’s your opinions on our teacher for English?” I asked. I wanted to talk to her so it wouldn’t be awkward while we walked to class.
“Well, I have mixed opinions. He hates my older brother. Let’s just say he wasn’t the best student.”
I wasn’t really listening to Zofie because Riley just passed by. Oh, Riley! Perfect time to ask him when the next swim meet is. But we all know I just wanted to see him.
“Sorry to stop you Zofie, one sec.” I rushed after Riley so I could talk… see him.
“Hey, Riley! When’s the next swim practice?” I smiled.
“Hey Alex! I think we have one tomorrow at 6am.” As he replied smiled back at me.
“Thanks!” I said as he walked by me. I turned around to look back at him. He knew my name! And He smiled at me!! Breath… breath… Is it okay for me to be freaking out?
Oh crap. Zofie! Wow that was rude of me to ignore her. I’ll say sorry to her in English. But first, let me put tomorrows meet in my calendar in my phone. I pulled out my phone and read the dates to find January 2. Huh… looks like were having dinner with Ava’s boyfriend. I totally forgo that every week we have dinner with all the family, we haven’t for winter break.
As I walked to my English class, I looked at pictures of Riley on Instagram. Am I a stocker? Probably. But I don’t care.
After a few moments of looking at Riley, I arrived at my English class. I stopped to find Zofie so I could say sorry to her for leaving her. But instead she said sorry to me.
“Hey, Alex, I’m sorry for talking to you this morning. Obviously, you didn’t want to talk to me. I shouldn’t have ruined your morning…” Zofie explained with a soft voice.
“No! I was obviously being rude this morning. I want to get to know you better. I kind of don’t have any friends anymore. I hope that’s okay? So, let me start over.” I said. ” Hi, I’m Alex Bowen.”
“Hi, I’m Zofie Drakos. It’s Greek.”
