I am consequently lonesome.
The room is unlit as well as cold.
The fact you are gone is loathsome.
It was just yesterday you were mine to hold.
This desolation in my heart cannot be filled.
You cannot be brought back there is no atonement.
Things have ceased to be the same since you were killed.
I wish your death could’ve had a postponement.
There were no opportunities to say goodbye.
I long to see your smile just once more.
You just decided to open your wings and fly.
I miss the way your paws thudded across the floor.
On one’s own in your absenteeism.
Companionless I agonize.
I can only have faith in my theism.
All of your things still here as if to antagonize.
Loyalty and friendship like yours cannot be replaced.
Nothing can explain that special kind of bond.
God’s presence I hope you have graced.
Of you, I grew quite fond.
You eternally possess a piece of my soul.
A rarity to your breed, your heart filled with benevolence.
Absolutely nothing will satisfy this gaping hole.
To the person that did this, I am malevolent.
I hope you have found a city of bones.
You deserved more than this world had to provide.
I have you envisioned on your own puppy throne.
Undoubtedly once more we will be side by side.

This poem tunes me into your – the writer’s, not the “narrator’s”- grief, and that makes it unique. There’s a sense of authenticity in your work. Most pieces on death usually only speak of a person that was lost. Sometimes people think that pets are just animals, so you cannot mourn them as you would a human life. The truth is, anyone who’s lost a pet grieves in the same way – they were still loyal companions that had a place in your life. I like that you actually wrote this piece on the subject, and I enjoyed it even more that its tone and style is dignified, but still compassionate.
Thank you! I greatly appreciate your feedback!
