I know what you’re thinking. What kind of a name is Jeremiah Jenkins, anyway? Well, it’s mine! You see, I was named after my great-grandfather, Jeremiah J. Jenkins. The other “J” stands for Jehosaphat, but I’m really glad my parents went with Jeremiah instead! My great-grandfather, Jeremiah, was a very, very curious person. That’s why my parents named me after him. They just knew that I would be curious, too!
That’s enough about my name. I promised you adventure, and adventure you shall have! Let’s see, when did I first become curious? Well, I think I was around 5 years-old the very first time I had and adventure AND almost got into big trouble! It all started one day on the playground….
One warm, sunny day, I at the playground with my friend, Jax. His real name was Jaxson James Robertson, but he preferred just Jax. Anyway, we we were at the playground having fun on the slide, when suddenly, a big, brown dog ran up to us and jumped RIGHT on top of Jax! Jax yelped in surprise, and before we could do anything, the dog ran into some trees by the playground. I was SO curious, I couldn’t help myself and I ran after that dog!
Well, as you can imagine, Jax yelled and yelled, but I was too fast. I chased that dog all through the trees until he disappeared. I stopped and before I could do anything else, a terrible thought hit me: I was LOST in the woods! I walked and walked for what felt like hours, looking for Jax, hoping I would run into ANYONE who could help me!
It began to get dark and I was afraid. I had only seen a wolf at the zoo before, but I was REALLY scared one was going to find me and chase after me! Just as I felt like sitting on the ground and crying, I saw the dog again! He came up to me, licked my face, and, he TALKED! He said, “There is nothing wrong with being curious, Jeremiah, but sometimes, curiosity can get you into trouble! Let this be a listen to you from now on, don’t go chasing adventure alone.” I blinked and only nodded, not having any idea what to say. How could this dog TALK?
Suddenly, the dog began to trot in the other direction. I ran after him as fast as my legs could carry me and, within a few minutes, I was back at the playground. A short distance away, there was a very worried Jax! Oh, he scolded me and scolded me, but I was so happy to see him, I didn’t care. As we walked home, I made up my mind about two things. I was going to be REALLY careful about being curious and I was going to find that talking dog again!
