CHAPTER TWO
Grannie May’s fabulous idea may or may not work, but it was worth a shot. Even though Elizabeth was the only one who could understand the instects, others could still speak to them. Grannie May knew that Elizabeth loved the ants the most. She used that to her advantage, Her plan was to speak to the ants about what had happened to her grandaughter. She knew that she couldn’t understand if they responded, but they could understand her when she spoke.
On a late, warm night, Grannie May crept out of the cottage when Elizabeth was fast asleep. The ants were most active at night when they worked to enlarge their colony. She had to be very careful of where she stepped becuase the moon could only shine so bright and steeping on an ant would ruin the plan. She finally reached the ant hill and slowly crouched down to she could see the ants scarmbling to build their home. She began whispering to the ants.
“Ants, I need your help. Elizabeth is not well. She has fallen into a stage of depression and I can do nothing to help her. I am asking you because I believe she will listen to you.”
Grannie May went on and on to persuade the ants that they should help her. She had no way of knowing that the ants understood her. They couldn’t even give her a sign because they were too small. Grannie May told the ants that they should do what they think would help Elizabeth simply because she trusted them and knew that they would know what to do.
To her surprise, the ants complied anf fulfilled Grannie May’s wishes. The result was extraordinary and brought tears of joy to her eyes.
