The Four
By Grace Fighter
Caiden Sinclair was just a normal boy, just like Ella Grace Callista, Lily Strider, Conor Mardon, and Faith Sullivan were just normal Anamians. But one day, all that changed, everything these Five people knew was changed. A war raging, and there were only four people who could stop it, The Four.
Ella Grace, Caiden, Faith, Lily, and Conor who were all very close friends, were sprinting toward the safehouse when somebody, Lily’s mother yelled, “Flee!” just as she was killed in an explosion. Lily screamed. A small bird, a light blue parakeet, flew down from the sky and landed on her shoulder. But they did flee. “Fire song!” Caiden yelled. A hawk streaked from the clouds and landed on his shoulder. Faith and Ella Grace had called their animals as well. A horse, Hunter, darted in front of Ella Grace, and a badger, Honey seeker, ran between Faith’s legs. The group ran forward, and their spirit animals guided them through the battle. The war in Anamia had been going on as long as any of the five children could remember, there had been a battle raging on a few miles from their village, but nobody had ever thought the Nikomiyokkites would attack the city of Sheeraki.
When they stopped, Lily sat down, her spirit animal, Bluebell, the little blue bird, tried to cheer her up, but it couldn’t. “Hunter. Come on you’ve got to go into your passive state, if we need you, I’ll let you come out, they are more likely to hurt us if they see spirit animals, especially one as big and strong as yourself.” Ella Grace said, annoyed. “Maybe you should tell your pony there that he’s a bad pony and won’t get any of his special pony treats tonight if he doesn’t go into passive form. Gracie” Caiden said, his eyes twinkling. “Oh, shut up Caiden.” Ella Grace said, setting her bow and quiver of arrows on the ground. So, are we staying here, or moving out?” She asked, finally deciding Hunter could stay active and alert. “Let’s go.” Faith said, looking at Lily.
They walked through the gorge, Lily was on the verge of tears. “You okay.” Conor asked. She burst into tears. Ella Grace, who was leading the group through the gorge, stopped and turned. “Let’s stop and make camp here.” She suggested.
Chapter 2
“Lils is something wrong?” Caiden asked, the tears on his friend’s face concerned him. “You can talk to us.” Faith said. “Yeah we’re here for you.” Conor said. “My mom… and, I got bit by a Nikomiyokkite’s snake.” Lily said, sniffling. Hunter, Ella Grace’s horse, neighed. Ella Grace walked over to Lily and put her hands on the other girl’s shoulders. “Lily Elizabeth Strider you listen to me. You are a wonderful girl and you can do this.” She said. Lily nodded and stopped crying. Hunter neighed and pawed the ground. Conor’s lion, Lionsol, growled. “Hunter’s right, we need to gather provisions.” She said. Ella Grace, being a wonderful leader, and at least a year older than the rest, looked at the others. Lily, you stay here. Caiden, you’re coming with me to get provisions. Conor, you stand guard. “What about me?” Faith asked. “Your job is to find water.” Ella Grace said. Caiden, get firesong, we might need her to help us hunt, and grab the knife to, you’ll need it.” She added. Caiden nodded and rushed off. While she waited, Ella Grace pulled out a piece of notebook paper from her pocket. She found a pencil in the small backpack she was carrying. She started writing a list of things they would need.
When they got back, a few hours later, they saw that Lily, Conor, and Faith had transformed the place. They had used grasses to weave three walled huts and used leaves and moss for the roofs. They had built a small stall for Hunter, they had built a tiny hut for Honeyseeker, and created a small, dark den for Lionsol. The huts, stall, and den, were all very warm, and there was a small clay glass of water in each hut, and for the animals, there was a medium sized hole filled with water. The floors of the huts, stall, and den, were all covered in soft leaves and moss, and the walls had been lined with it too.
They weren’t much but they would have to work. “Nice job transforming camp you three. We just need to build a fire, then we can cook the food that Caiden and I got. We caught a deer for Lionsol, I’ll give it to him now, and we found an abondoned beehive, so Honeyseeker can have that. We also found an inhabited beehive, we got a few stings, but we managed to kill the bees and get the hive.”
