Monday is Martin Luther King Jr day–Here is a poem I wrote–KB
THE MARCH
(Martin Luther King Jr.)
am I ready?
is it time?
trifling questions drop away
words spin into my mind
mountains of hate block our way
we must tear these down
a river of peace runs through me
I reach up to the star of freedom
my voice heralds words of challenge and hope
I see the crushing sadness of our time
I feel the pain that racism inflicts
I feel the pain poverty deals
I hear the cries that war and violence shriek
together we must join hands and march
passed pain and hate
passed angry eyes, growling dogs and fire hoses
we shall not falter we must march
to the dream we were promised
and if I stumble and fall
keep the peace and march on
toward the dream
I will be waiting in that bliss filled time
by the river
beneath the star
