An elderly man was walking down the road when a teen on the streets saw this elderly man and started to laugh at him. As the elderly man was walking past this teen, the teen decided to make fun of the man. The teen made fun of the man’s clothes, cane, the way he talked and looked, even his scars. When the teen had stopped his comments and started to laugh some more, the elderly man looked at this teen dead in the eyes, smiled and said: “Never in my days have I ever seen a kid so disrespectful to anyone as you. You may say what you want and how you want to. Heck, you can scream and laugh as you please. That is your right. But just know this, I am one of the 1,000’s of men and women who have defended that and all of your rights along with your freedom. I’ve been to Vietnam and other wars. You can say and do whatever you want to me, but nothing can beat what I’ve seen or been through. Your able to use your 5th amendment because of the men and women of the US Military just like me defend that right everyday”. said the elderly man. The teen who was once laughing at this man, stopped laughing and looked at this man as if he was a deer in headlights. The teen who was once a smart mouthed cocky teen now became a speechless. The Vet walked past the teen, saw an American flag flying outside a school yard. He stopped and saluted with all his American pride and love he had. The teen was still speechless at what just happened and what he just saw. Never again did that teen say any other rude comments to the Vet or anyone else.
