Chapter 1: Collage, Job, Family
1945, England:
“Sir, The test subject is ready.”
“Proceed with the experiment!”
“No! Please let me go!”
“Prepare to start in one, two, three!”
As the sergeant pressed the button to begin the experiment the lights went off and sparks came from the wires on the capsule that contained the test subject 09.
“Sir do we proceed with step two?!”
“Yes!”
“But sir the tests subject vitals are not stable I don’t think she can handle it!”
“I said proceed sergeant! It’s an order!”
The sergeant continued with the second step and pressed the button to release a chemical gas in the capsule. Screams of anguish and pain came from the girl. She was trying to hold on, trying to stay alive even if the blood curdling pain wanted her to do otherwise. As the gas filled her lungs everything became blurry and she couldn’t breathe causing her to suffocate.
“Sir the procedure is over.”
“How are the vitals of the test subject?”
“Sir… we lost her sir.”
“Check again sergeant!”
The sergeant got into the lab test room where the capsule was. He opened the capsule where the girl’s lifeless body was. He was horrified by the murder they had committed. He went closer and placed his fingers on her neck to check for the tiniest pulse.
“Sir she’s gone……AhAHahahhAHhahahh!!!!!”
The girl lifeless body had come to life and grabbed the sergeant and bit deep on his neck with long white fangs. The poor sergeant screams filled the lab.
“Bloody hell! What is going on?”
“We do not know.”
“Get troops in there and shoot her down!”
As the troops arrived the girl got out of the capsule covered in the red blood of the sergeant. She had lost her humanity and turned into something else. She walked over at the glass window trying to break it down. At that exact moment the troops had arrived and stared shooting at her. Somehow the bullets didn’t do anything to her.
“Sir we are shooting but she is not down!”
“What the hell! How is that possible?”
The troops continued to shoot but the girl began to attack them and kill them one by one. She couldn’t understand why she had such a desire for blood, what had they done to her? What have they turned her into?
“Sir help! AhAHahahhAHhahahh!”
The soldier body went flying to the glass window where the scientist and commander were watching the horrific events.
“Sir she has gotten out of the lab and is rapidly moving to floor B365.”
“Bring doctor Kellar.”
“But sir…?”
“Bring doctor Kellar now!!!”
1987, Santa Carla California:
“By honey see you in the afternoon.”
“By mom, love you.”
I locked the door behind me and took a deep breath to fill my lungs with the fresh morning air. I felt a newspaper land on my head and I looked behind to find my stupid friend Jerry.
“What the hell! Asshole!”
“Sorry Corey my bad but hurry we are going to miss the bus!”
As we were in the bus heading to school I felt tired of the same routine that happened every day of my boring life. My dad every morning gives me the same speech, “ You have to get good grades so one day you can go to college, then get a job, and if you are lucky a family of your own.” Collage, Job, Family apparently the most important words in my family. My parents are great, but they have made me live a life that made me into a person that I’m not. I want a life of excitement and adventure or at least do something that I like.
“Corey look here comes Lisa”
Lisa was the hottest babe in school she was the dream girl of everyone every guy. She had curly brown hair, great body, beautiful face, great lips, and blue eyes. But nobody was more in love with her than my friend Jerry. Unfortunately, we are the kids that get bullied and shoved around, the kind that Lisa would never date.
“Corey do you think this is the year where I will be able to ask her out?”
“I don’t know Jerry you always say that, and you always chicken out. Even though you do ask her she will say no.”
“Corey why are you always so negative you have been positive look.”
Jerry got in a macho position and but his so-called sexy face.
“Hey Lisa.”
“Creep!”
“I told you so.”
“Shut up Corey I know deeply inside she loves me.”
“ Yeah right.”
“Corey when are you ever going to fall in love with a girl you always complain that your life is boring well a girl can put some action in your life.”
“Jerry unlike you I’m actually looking for the right girl.”
“God! You sound just like a grandpa.”
As we got down the bus I felt a knot in my stomach as I saw Kevin Grey in the school entrance. He was the football jock that everybody liked but who was an asshole to me and Jerry. I hated him so much I have always wanted to punch him the face but I’m half his size, so he would probably kill me.
“Oh no its Kevin. Shit.”
“Come on Jerry lets go through the back of the school.”
“Hey you dipshit!”
When I heard that I knew Kevin had seen me and I was dead.
“Where are you two going?”
“Come on Kevin we didn’t do anything.”
“No shit. Well just your presence bothers me.”
“Please Kevin not today.”
“Shut up! Give me your lunch money.”
I saw Jerry reach into his pockets and give him his money. I was tired of this.
“No!”
“Excuse me what?”
“I said no Kevin.”
“Listen you little shit give your money and I will not punch your face.”
“NO!”
As I said that I felt regret I saw his huge fist coming at the speed of light towards my face. I fell flat on my back and a stinging pain came to my face. I felt him getting my wallet an taking my money.
“I told you to give me your money. Well thank you losers.”
“Oh shit Corey! Are you alright? That was awesome! Only that your baby face got messed up.”
“My mom and dad are going to kill me!”
“Don’t think that! Look today you have finally gotten some action in your life.”
“Your right huh.”
“Yeah.”
We did our hand shake that we have been doing since we were small. The day kept going as usual in math Jerry would fall asleep and I would try to keep up. How much I hate math. Then in US the teacher would ransom about the Vietnam war and how he lost his left eye in it. Then in English we were doing some grammar. Then finally lunch came I gave the extra money in my backpack to Jerry to buy some lunch it was fine if I didn’t eat. I told Jerry I had to go to the restroom. I looked at myself in the mirror and saw the bruise that Kevin had left I thought it looked badass. I looked at myself closely trying to see if I had changed but I was my old self. I had the same blond hair, same features, and same blue eyes. After lunch we went to our last classes and finally the end of school.
“Hey Corey, I’ll see you tomorrow I’m going to the arcade.”
“Wait, I’m coming with you.”
“What! But you never come to the arcade and your parents will kill you.”
“Jerry please come on that is the exact reason I want to go.”
“Okay let’s go Mr. Rebel.”
On our way to the arcade I saw the sun coming down giving the sky an orange color. It was mid-October, so the air was cold that it gave me goose bumps. Finally we got to the Santa Carla Boardwalk were the arcade was. I had never been here my parents say is where the nobodies come. It was filled with rock music and people with messy hairstyles, leather jackets, and black boots. There were also a lot of people in swimming suits and surfers. I loved this place.
“Come on Corey I don’t want you to get lots, bad things do happen here.”
We went inside the arcade were White Wedding by Billy Idol was playing. There were various game machines and it was packed with a lot of people. I followed Jerry to all the games he wanted to play. He taught me how to play Packman, Asteroids, Dungeons and Dragons, and Centipede. But after a while I got tired and suffocated and I needed to get some air.
“Jerry! I’m going outside to get some air!”
“Yeah sure!’
He said to me without paying attention. I walked out of the building to the board walk. I began to stroll towards the beach where the fair was. The fair gave a lot of lights of different colors in the night. As I was walking I was fascinated to see all the rides that were I the fair , I had always wanted to ride them. In the distance I saw a girl with light brown hair, green eyes, pale skin, red lips, she was dressed in a white shirt, leather jacket and pants, and black boots. I couldn’t understand what was happening to me. I felt like I was in a trance as she was coming closer to me. Her big green eyes were putting a spell on me that couldn’t be broken. She finally came close to me and looked at me with her eyes with expectation and smirked. She passed by only leaving the smell of her perfume in the air that smell like peaches. I turned around to see her get away little by little. I wanted to follow her ask her who she is and invite her to a date. But I couldn’t move I just stood there mesmerized even if I wanted to move I couldn’t. When I had thought I would never see her face again she turned around towards me and smiled again and continued to walk away.
“Corey! Corey!”
I heard Jerry calling me and broke the trance I found myself in.
“I have been looking for you!”
“I told you I was going outside for some air.”
“Yes but not to walk around I told you it’s a dangerous place. People disappear all the time around this area.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Yeah whatever, come on let’s go to the comic book store down the board walk.”
We walked by the board walk toward the comic book store. I couldn’t get that girl out of my head. It was as if her picture was engraved in my head. We went inside and looked around for Batman number 4, it was a rare book only 4 in existence. But then the door opened, and she walked in I felt my stomach get in a knot and my palms getting sweaty.
“Corey hello. What are you looking at?”
Jerry took a look around and I grabbed his head and pointed it at the direction of the girl.
“Oh I see finally you found a babe.”
“Shut up she’s coming this way act normal.”
I acted as if I was going through the comic books and hadn’t notice her. I looked with the corner of my eye and saw she was next to me looking at the comic books. I examined her face which was filled with curiosity and a smirk. I felt Jerry poking me with his shoulder indicating me to talk to her. I began to think of what to say so I wouldn’t look like a total creep. But I couldn’t manage as much as I wanted to. Then I saw her look at me and I turned my eyes back to the comic books. I felt sweat running through by back.
“Hi I’m Maddison.”
When I heard that soft sweet British accent words my heart began to pound, and I turned to look at her. Her big green eyes were looking straight at me expecting me to say something. I felt Jerry poke me again to talk.
“Hi I’m Corey.”
“I like Corey. It’s a great name. I saw you staring at me in the board walk.”
“What no! I… I. just thought you were someone I knew.”
“Oh really.”
She looked at me with a sarcastic look that made me feel more nervous than I already was. For a few seconds we stood in an awkward silence.
“Well I have to go home would you like to walk me Corey?”
I was surprised by what she had asked.
“Sure.”
I looked at Jerry and we silently said hell yeah. I said bye to Jerry and Maddison and I headed on our way. The night was chilly but there was a full moon with clouds around it and you could see the bright stars shinning. I took a look at her wavy hair which moved swiftly as the bris from the night passed by. Her pale skin looked as if it was shining like the ice. She looked mysterious and almost as if she was hiding something but at the same time expectant. I never seen a girl like her, she was unique and even though she had beauty she still gave me an eerie feeling.
“So Corey how old are you?
“I’m 17. How about you?”
“Well let’s just say I’m old enough.”
“Okay.”
“Where do you live Corey?”
“I live down Bay street in the house 351… Why did I just do that?”
“You’re very trusting of people. It’s a nice thing but people shouldn’t be trusted, when you least expect it they will hurt you.”
“Well maybe but I trust you.”
“But you don’t even know me.”
“I know that, but you look like a great person that likes comics.”
“I’m not a good person Corey. I do bad things.”
“Maddison everyone has a bad side I do bad things believe it or not. But we chose what kind of person we want to be.”
“Well sometimes life doesn’t give you that option.”
Her words made me wonder what she has done to make her say that.
“So what school do you go to Maddison?”
“I don’t go to school.”
“Oh so your home schooled?”
“Yeah you could say that.”
“I go to Santa Carla Highschool. I bet it’s better to be homeschooled than going to that shithole.”
“Why do you say that?”
“Well at school people are always judging you and there is this guy named Kevin that always bothers Jerry and me.”
“Why does he do that?”
“Because we are different than most of the kids at school or in other words we are not the cool kids.”
“I have always wanted to be able to go to school and make friends, but I can never be able to go.”
“Why not? Your parents don’t let you?”
She stopped walking and looked down at the concrete. I realized I had said something I shouldn’t have.
“I’m sorry I didn’t mean to offend you or anything.”
“No it’s okay it’s just we got here.”
“Is this your house?”
“Yeah.”
Her house was old but well taken care of. It had a garden of tulips and a big apple tree. She stood silently in the drive way as if she was waiting for something.
“Well I guess I have to go huh?”
“Don’t you want to come in?”
“Really?”
“Yes, my parents are not home yet.”
“Okay.”
We walked to the front door and she grabbed the key to the house that was under a pot.
“Come on in.”
I walked inside, and the house was dark and smelled moldy mixed with the smell of wet dirt.
“Wait here I’m going to turn on the lights.”
I watched her disappear in the darkness. I felt like the memories of the monster coming for me at night come back and made me feel nervous waiting in the dark and creaky house. In the distance I felt that something was watching me closely. As if it was watching and preparing to hunt me down. I felt my skin get goose bumps as the wind outside made the house creak in a ghostly way. My palms began to feel sweaty and I became desperate. Why hasn’t she turned the lights on. I heard a growl that was beastly something I have never heard before. I felt my heart beating faster and faster. I heard foots steps in the wood floor circulating me as if it was about to devour me. I began to turn in circles trying to find the creature lurking in the shadows. In that moment I felt something jump on my back and dropped me to the floor. I didn’t understand what was happening I couldn’t move; the grasp of the creature was to strong. The creature was cold as ice. I felt the creatures snot get close to neck I wanted to scream but I couldn’t it was too much. I felt my cross chain that my grandmother gave me slip out of my shirt where the creature snot was about to bite. I felt the creature jump off me without hesitating the creature had given out a horrific growl. I heard the door open and the fresh air come in the missed emotion and adrenaline I had made me feel woozy and I began to slip away until everything was dark.
