Two Peas in a Pod (Part Two)

Chapter Two To Arms! Man the Sails!
My soon to be Bff and I were in a panic for we didn’t have our swimsuits on. Going to the pond, you kind of needed that essential. Lucia(my pal) looked over at me and shrugged her shoulders.
“Oh, well what can we do, ” she said.
I didn’t reply with words only a sweet smile.
Lucia spotted her Mom near one of the big white vans which transported us everywhere. The Sisters assigned each of us to a certain vehicle by arranging our names on a sheet of paper. Then they call your name and point which direction you had to go.
“Mom, over here!” yelled Lucia waving her hands in the air.
Her curly haired Mother saw us two trying to get her attention.
“Lu, we need to get on this van! Come over, please. And don’t worry I’ll do my best to get your friend on the same one.” Her Mom was closer so I noticed a slight twinkle in her eye.
This family was A DARLING! THEY WELCOMED ME WITH OPEN ARMS even though they barely knew me.
On the way to the pond, Sister something(I have no idea what her full real name was) broke out into full joyous song. She wanted the girls in her van to join in.
“Doe, a deer…a female deer! Ray a drop of golden sun!” she sang with only a few camp members saying the lyrics in a humdrum tone.
“Come on, girls! I bet you all have amazing voices. Let me hear it!”
Lucia and I joined in singing quiet at first, but then blooming to a strong lovely pitch.
“That’s more like it!” said Sister delightfully.
As we drove, yellow dust billowed around the van like a force field, which occasionally seeped through the cracks in the windows.
One of the girls in the way back started to complain of dust forming on her face. Everybody was experiencing the same thing but apparently she wanted drama.
“Sister, my face is all dirty!” she whined with her friends who displayed signs of sympathy.
“You can wash it off at the pond because…HERE WE ARE!” replied Sister pulling the van up to a gate that was stationed on a grassy knoll.
Sister got out and quickly opened the gate. She climbed back in.
“We can only drive so far,” she said.
We were soon greeted by a dirt-free breeze and just off to the right sat a shimmering small body of water. Tall, swaying grass grew on the banks of the pond along with fully grown cat tails. A medium-sized dock was somewhat on the shore and halfway in the water. On the sides of the platform were paddle boats, ready to be used. The boats’ canyon seats had mucky green water in them.
As we unloaded the white bus, Lucia warned me a rough boat was blocking the entrance of the dock. So,naturally we had to be dare devils and jump over it.
Lu’s Mother was on the bobbing end of the dock, when my BFF and I pushed off on the paddle boat.
“Have fun!” she called smiling. We did indeed have a blast.
Peddling was my task while Lucia armed herself with a water gun.
“Who should we spray?” she asked squinting her eyes, for the bright sun was directly in them.
“Shouldn’t we let the danger find us?” I said panting in exhaustion. Getting this boat moving was hard work.
Soon enough we were squirted by another boat. And the ride back to the boarding house was a squishy one. We were both soaked.
But Lucia and I were happy that we shared an adventure;together.

This was really good Gen1900. Very rich descriptions. Very happy go lucky and bubbly writing.
The descriptors though were incredible. I could taste the dirt. I could see the pond as if it were more than a postcard. Very good writing and a developed style.
Thank you so very much! You don’t know how happy that makes me feel! Especially because I’m going through some rough patches in my life. You made my day.:)
