I stood on my porch,
Looked with my torch,
Just to see her walking away.
Rain is coming down hard,
No turn of a friendly card,
Explain to her my feelings, not today.
I am only a friend,
The love I want to send
Would break no bounds or chains.
She called out my name,
I turn, much to be ashame
The driver was rushing her leaving train.
A waved back to her,
No word I could mutter
Before the car doors closed, she wouldn’t stay.
I stand now on my porch
Watching out with my torch
As she now just drives away.

This poem is powerful and relatable. Heartbreak is a common thing. It brings about feelings of sorrow and regret. I think the strongest part of this poem is, “I am only a friend, The love I want to send Would break no bounds of chains.” This is powerful and causes the reader to reach into their own self and think about the times they have been able to relate to this.
