There once was a small girl, only 6 years of age. She was lonely all her life, for plague had stolen her parents away. There was no grandparent, no aunt, nor uncle to look after the poor, weeping thing, so she was placed in an orphanage by her cold-hearted neighbors. “Keep the ankle-biter penned somewhere,” the neighbors would sneer. “We don’t want dirty, stray children begging at our doorsteps!”
An orphanage is a place of hope in the eyes of a community, but it was an earthly hell for the poor, forsaken girl. She was teased on the playground, bullied in the cafeteria, whipped needlessly by the mistress, for others would make her the scapegoat of their mischievous crimes. The only friend she had was a precious little doll, handcrafted by her mother’s own hands, whom she pretended was her sister through her life of somber gray. The girl would gently brush the doll’s hair daily, tenderly placing ribbons in its hair, the same she would use for her own. She would even wash the pretty thing every night before she bathed herself! Oh yes, she would use the lovely lavender soap that her mother left for her, to wash the dirt off the doll after the day’s adventures. And before she went to bed that night, she would read her doll a beautiful fairy tale of a fanciful land, filled with unicorns, elves, handsome princes and powerful dragons, who hoarded a fortune of gold in their secret caves! Yes, the girl treated her doll with a kindness hat even a human would yearn for.
But one night, after storytelling was over, and the girl had gone to sleep to see a better life in her dreams, something purely magical happened… The doll that the girl had cherished with her own heart, came to life right before the girl’s eyes! The girl awoke with a jump, and her blue eyes stared in wonder at the doll that was now a beautiful, living young lady! Her ebony hair draped down in lovely midnight curls; her emerald, green eyes giggled with life and merriment; and the cute, baby blue dress she always wore, was now a gorgeous, turquoise ballgown with fairy-wings!
They stared at each other for a minute, but once they understood the truth, they were overcome with brilliant joy, and the newly-made sisters rushed to embrace each other! “You loved me all your life, and never neglected me in your times of distress,” The transformed doll warmly said. “I simply couldn’t keep all the love to myself, but was called to share it back with my truest friend! Now that I breathe and live, come and take my hand; I will show you a better life then the life that we have known so grim.”
So they opened the storybook they shared together every night, and hand-in-hand disappeared into the magical land they had dreamed so much about! No more was the girl to suffer in the cruel building of loneliness and hate; she had made a friend through the magic of her own love! Let’s be like that little girl in our everyday life; let’s create the beautiful magic in our own lives by sharing love to all we meet!
Fairy Tales

This story put such a huge smile on my face! I love feel-good stories like this. I especially enjoy how you captured the feel of a fairy tale with how you worded everything, particularly the first two sentences. Most fairy tales also have a morale at the end, so yours fits in perfectly!
