It was a pleasant Christmas morning when I woke up at my moms and opened a few presents. I got a few nice things, like perfume, new clothes, including socks and new shoes, and a few other things like a new diary and other knick knacks. Nothing really stood out but I was still well pleased. When I got to my dad’s house, however, I was in for a pleasant surprise.
We arrived onto the driveway and there appeared to be someone over because there was a truck in the driveway, but when I got out and saw my dad with a cup of coffee in his hand and as he was beaming at the truck, I looked at the front, saw there was a bow, and knew that it was mine. He must have had read my diary or something because it was a truck that looked like something I mentioned in my diary.
Once my mom congratulated me then she drove away. The competition was settled for that moment, dad had won at Christmas.
“Dad! How did you know I wanted a truck?!”
“Eh, you got a job, I check in on a few of the guys where you work, they said you wanted a truck and that you described every detail, they really like you over there by the way. They also told me a few other things.” He looked quizzically at her. “Go ahead and check what’s inside the back.”
It was a camper truck with a shell. Inside there was a tent, sleeping bags, blankets, hiking boots and a stove. All the necessities for an adventure.
“Geesh dad. You trying to get rid of me?”
“Ha. Naw. But you are more adventurous than I thought. Your coworkers said you were ready to up and leave. Now that you have enough money, and you don’t have to buy your own truck, I figure you can take the money and run, or drive. Where do you think you’re headed though? I recommend the Northern part of California, or you could do a drive through the country of the middle of the states. There are a lot of beautiful roads alone out there. You oughta pick a cousin or other family member to go with.”
“Good idea.” She said, without meaning it. She knew she couldn’t bring family with her on the type of adventure she was after. That would be awkward.
She got inside the truck, drove it down the block and then back into the driveway. She was a natural, and naturally cautious, but also thrilled to feel the engine get going from the pedal.
“So when ya leaving?” He asked.
“Well, I just gotta check in with work I guess, then be on my way. How far will seven grand take me?”
“Seven huh? Geesh, you were close to getting out of here on your own huh? Well, seven grand. Hmm. That’ll get you pretty far. For about three months, you could live comfortably. And maybe six months if you live sparingly, or even longer if you pick up a job. But don’t worry about that now. Come on inside, let’s celebrate and spend time with family. They’re all inside waiting.”
She got inside and there were stockings and presents and many people whom she loved and cared for. It was warm, it was Christmas and the fireplace was even going. Everybody asked her if she was thrilled with her truck after rounds of hugs and she really couldn’t hold back her gratitude, especially knowing the keys were in her pocket and that there were plenty of camping materials ready for her. She would be sleeping under the stars and finally on that adventure she’d been waiting for. And now that her cousins were around, she did think it might be a good idea to bring one or two along. Just to get her baring’s. And she would let them in on her plan to find love.
She had a lot of thinking to do before the first. And she knew that it was on that day or around there that she wished to leave. She didn’t know exactly where to go, but she had an inkling that someone or something would turn up.

I love the story so far! I cannot wait until the next chapter!
I continued this story and decided I will publish it later. I usually try to publish a book a year, but lately, it’s been a lot of effort to keep the ball rolling.
I’m working on a new one though, so stay tuned!
